Politics

What is politics?

Politics is the way in which society is run, particularly when it comes to the government, how it is formed, and how it runs. Biblically speaking, ultimately, it is God who controls how this goes. He sets up governments with the intention that they punish evil, and reward good. Generally speaking, most Christians do not have to worry about that aspect, as most of us will not hold political power (though of course, if and when we do, it is vital to use our power in a way that is pleasing to God). The vast majority of us, however, are called to pray for our leaders - even the ungodly ones - that we may live peaceful lives in reverence of God. We are also told to obey them, except when obedience to them conflicts with our religious duties. There is an extra element for modern Christians, as many of us do have the legal right to vote, and thus, we should be educated on certain issues in order to do so properly.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. - 1 Timothy 2:1-2 KJV
