Evidence for Christianity
What is Christianity?
Christianity centers around the God whose name it bears: Jesus Christ (Christ being a title, not, as is commonly misunderstood, a surname). Throughout history, many creeds have been drafted to summarise the Christian faith, but of course, I believe Scripture sums it up best:
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time." (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
Pseudo-Christianity
Due to the large number of false religions also claiming the name "Christianity", it is necessary to specify that Christianity has three essential elements (2 Corinthians 11:4), the changing of which renders a religion not Christian by definition. These three elements are:
-
The Jesus the Apostles preached
-
The Spirit the Church received
-
The Gospel the Church accepted.
These three elements are essential for Christianity, and can all be found in the Christian Holy Book, the Bible. Any religion that alters these, though it may claim to be Christianity, is not a Christian religion, though it may claim it is, and may even be recognised as Christian by external bodies such as the government.
