As a Christian, the sanctity of human life is a part of my religion. I believe, as a matter of faith, that there are very few scenarios in which it is acceptable for a human being to kill another human being. That being said, I do believe there are exceptions. For example, if a man attempts to rape a woman, I firmly believe she should be able to shoot him. If he dies, it's his own fault for attempting to rape her.
Now, does the fact that I believe a woman can kill her attempted rapist mean I also believe she can kill that same man if he's minding his own business on a park bench? Only a fool would say yes. The default position when it comes to our fellow human beings is do not kill. Just because there are exceptions doesn't mean it's always ok, and in fact the exceptions prove the rule.
Exceptions, by their nature, require a rule. If there is no rule, there need not be exceptions. Take, for example, morally neutral actions such as putting pineapple on pizza. Putting pineapple on pizza is not, of itself, a sin. Because it is not a sin, there is never a need to justify it. "How dare you put pineapple on that pizza?" "I had no choice, the pineapple was trying to rape me!"
When it comes to abortion, abortionists will often resort to making the saddest possible case. "What about if a 10 year old with cancer gets raped, and will die if she brings the child to term?" Well, yes, we can make a rather compelling case that it's ok to commit an abortion if the mother will die from carrying the pregnancy to term. It's tragic, as an innocent person still has to die, but in a scenario where you either let two people die, or kill one to save the other, it's morally preferable to kill the one to save the other.
But if we're being totally honest here, this hypothetical 10 year old is a pawn. With the abortion industry's own statistics, rape full stop accounts for less than 5% of abortions. And when I say that, I am being extremely generous to the abortionist, I have literally never seen a statistic so high. Now, to be clear, I do not grant that rape excuses abortion. A successful abortion always ends an innocent human life, and therefore, abortion is repugnant. However, let's compromise for a moment and pretend I am ok with abortion in cases of rape. Will the abortionist concede the >95% of abortions in which rape is not involved? In my experience, they literally never do. Their position isn't "abortion is ok if a child gets raped", it's "abortion is always ok".
But by mentioning rape, they admit it's not. If abortion was ok, they could argue that abortion is ok, just like pineapple on pizza. When they bring up things like rape, incest, or saving the mother's life, they are effectively admitting they need to bring up rape, incest, and saving the mother's life. They bring up what they believe are exceptions to the rule because they at least subconsciously acknowledge the rule.
Unfortunately for them, God does not distinguish between the conscious and the subconscious. In the book of Romans, God tells us the law is written on the hearts of even the Gentiles, so that our very conscience will testify against us on the day of judgement. Abortionists know that abortion is one of their many sins, and so God will not acquit them by any means. Except for one.
See, while abortionists selfishly kill their own children for their own sakes, God selflessly gave His own Son for ours. Through the womb of a virgin, Jesus entered the world as a man, lived a perfect life, yet He died on the cross, receiving the full wrath of God for sin. Therefore, Scripture tells us that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us, and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Abortion can be forgiven. If you've ever had an abortion, God loves you, Jesus died for you, you can be forgiven. If you've ever performed an abortion, God loves you, Jesus died for you, you can be forgiven. If you've ever defended the abominable practice of abortion, even if you're a politician who has passed legislation supporting abortion, God loves you, Jesus died for you, and you can be forgiven. All you have to do is repent, confess Jesus as Lord, and believe God raised Him from the dead. The alternative is quite ironic. Whereas believers are born again, receiving everlasting life as an inheritance, unbelievers are forever condemned, and receiving due punishment for all their sins. One might call this eternal abortion.
