That abortion is evil should be obvious to every conscientious human being on the planet, but all too often, it simply isn't. This, however, is because abortion itself is not always entirely obvious. For decades, abortionists have actively lied about what abortion actually is, keeping their supporters ignorant of either science (what is), or scripture (what should be).
Science is all about "what is". That is, it is mankind's attempt to understand and navigate the creation we inhabit. Scientifically speaking, it is possible to identify certain things both individually and collectively. You don't even really have to be a scientist to do this. With minimal help, you can look at most people and say "this is Bob, and Bob is a human".
You can do this with other things, too. You can look at your dog and identify it not only with other dogs, but even what specific breed it is. With a little extra study, you can also identify tadpoles with frogs, or caterpillars with butterflies. You might even be able to recognise what seeds will produce what plants.
By doing this "extra study", scientists have been able to determine that life begins at conception. Indeed, prior to the mid 1960s, scientists were unanimous in their belief that life begins the moment the ovum is fertilised by the sperm in the fallopian tube, simply because this is when development begins, and will continue on its own until hindered.
In the mid 1960s, abortionists threw doubt on that, but they did so neither in a scientific way, nor for scientific motivations. Because they wanted to make abortifacients acceptable to women, and circumvent certain pro-life laws, they started using language to blur the lines between abortion and contraception.
The science has not changed in 60 years. We know, as we have always known, that life begins at conception. When a sperm fertilises an egg, the result is the beginning of human development. Unhindered, the resulting embryo will develop for the rest of its life.
[Possible abortionist comeback: This is not the case, since left to itself, it will die. It is entirely dependent upon its mother.
Simple pro-life response: Technically, all life is dependent on something. The mother herself will "stop developing" if she is denied food and water for long enough. Fulfilling the needs is not what is causing human development, but what is allowing that process to continue. One must intervene in order to prevent the development. It would count as intervention to prevent the fetus from fulfilling its needs, but it is not the fulfilment of those needs that makes it into a human. That has already been done.]
And you don't even have to be a biologist to know this. When a woman gets pregnant, does she expect to birth a pig? Do we use condoms in case our reckless sexual encounters result in a bear growing in the mother's womb? Does a woman walk into an abortion clinic and say "I suspect it may be an elephant, so I don't want this one, please take it out"? You need less than a single high school biology class to know that abortion is the premature termination of a human life.
But unfortunately, science is limited in its scope. It can tell you what is, it can't tell you what should be. Science can identify and distinguish between people of different races, and it can even tell you why these physical distinctions exist, but it cannot prove people of all races are equal. It can tell you a person is of Jewish descent, but it can't show that you have no right to throw Jews in a gas chamber in large numbers. While we're on the subject of past atrocities that were 100% legal, and sustained in the public eye by scientific ignorance, science can also tell us that from the moment of conception, a person is a person, but it cannot tell us all people are equally valuable.
Unfortunately, after years of deception, abortionists are finally starting to admit that abortion does end a human life. But because society has grown numb to it, they're making whole new excuses. This is where ignorance of scripture comes in.
Scripture goes beyond telling us what is, telling us what should be as well. A law above laws, this book comes from the Creator of human life Himself. It is He who dictates what should and should not be done on this earth, and in the end, He will judge how well we did, punishing every evil deed. And His word is really rather clear: You do not get to prematurely end a human life without due cause. There are situations in which this can be done (ironically, including capital punishment carried out by a legitimate authority against murderers), but the default is always pro-life. All human beings are equal, and valuable, and are actually made in His image. Thus, He demands a reckoning for those who take it (Genesis 9:1-7).
Some Christians will deny this, but to them I simply say read your Bible again. There is simply no Biblical case that can be made for abortion. Not that they don't try, but they will never succeed. Abortion is always the premature end to a human life without due cause, which is the very definition of murder. And what does scripture say? "...you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." (1 John 3:15).
"But other faiths say otherwise", some abortionists snap back. Ok, here's my question: Are they right? There are faiths out there that say it's perfectly acceptable to kill you. Should we just let ISIS run around killing people because it's a part of their religion? Of course not. It is completely legitimate to say some faiths are wrong, and indeed is completely impossible not to.
Whether you like it or not, someone's religion is going to come out on top. Otherwise, why have laws at all? Why not have this group over here follow their faith, that group over there can do what they want, we do what's right in our eyes, you do whatever you feel like at the time? Because it would be chaos. So it would be better for people of all faiths to just let the true faith "win".
And so really, even this argument requires ignorance of scripture. If you know full well that it condemns abortion, but don't know that it is right to condemn abortion, that's still ignorance. It's just a different kind of ignorance.
As it stands, not only is the Bible true, but also sensible. Indeed, most people, even atheists, see this. Granted, there aren't as many, but there are many atheist pro-lifers. See, the thing about God is He didn't just drop us in one place, a Bible in the other, and expect us to find each other by chance. Rather, the world He created works exactly as the Bible describes it, and He gave us a certain set of instincts by which to recognise this. Just as you will immediately retract your hand if you attempt to pick up something hot, most people immediately recoil when they see the results of an abortion. In fact, in 2011, Ray Comfort's ministry, Living Waters, released the 180 Movie, in which 8 Abortionists become pro-life in mere seconds, only from being shown what, exactly, happens during an abortion. And that didn't even use the more "sensitive content".
And about that "sensitive content". This is further proof of this concept. When you see a horribly disfigured, post-abortion baby corpse, you shouldn't be mad at the person who showed you, you should be mad that this was done. That child was so clearly alive that the sight of its broken body sickens you. Why, then, are you not sickened that it's 100% legal for a "doctor" to do that?
So you see, you don't even have to be a scientifically literate, Biblically educated, faithful Christian to know that abortion is wrong. All you need is a functioning conscience and a pair of eyes. And that's why abortionists, whose conscience is seared, try so hard to close them. It's why they lie through their teeth, it's why they manipulate language, it's why they endlessly turn on the waterworks and use rape victims as pawns for their despicable agenda. Even they know this is a modern atrocity. We can only hope future generations will look back on abortion the way we look back on those cultures who sacrificed babies to Molech, or left weak babies out in the desert for dogs and vultures to eat.
But it's not the judgement of future generations we should fear. Rather, it is God's. For indeed, as I have said, the Bible is true. We were all made in the image of the Living God, and all of us will one day meet Him to give an account for our lives. But abortion is just one of our many sins. We have all rebelled against Him, and the punishment for that crime is an eternity suffering His wrath. The solution? Faith.
Beyond all imagination, God, in all His love, is so pro-life that He takes no pleasure even in the death of the wicked. He will kill them, but reconciliation is His preference. To that end, He sent His Son, Jesus, to be born of a virgin, live a perfect life, die on the cross for sin, and rise again. Now, all who will confess Jesus as Lord, and believe in their hearts God raised Him from the dead, will receive eternal life from Him. The alternative is God will treat the impenitent the same way they treat the unborn. God will abort them, saying "my Kingdom, my choice". None of us want that.
