Atheists don't deserve special privileges

Atheism has never been an evidence problem, it's a heart problem. This can be shown just by the number of Christians who exist. Around the world today, millions of people know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. The Church does not consist of a bunch of gullible fools. We do not believe just because a book told us to. We weren't all raised Christians. Many of us actually began very sceptical. Just as atheists boast of many supposedly "ex-Christians", Christianity boasts of many ex-atheists.

As I returned home from a walk with my dog one afternoon, I remembered one specific story I heard. An atheist went scuba diving, and by astonishing coincidence, he discovered a tract, which contained the words of Psalm 139:9-10: "If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me." And so the atheist took the hint. God's word says He will find us in the sea, God's word found him in the sea, now was probably the time to repent. And so he did.

Another atheist I heard of would never respond to intellectual arguments for God, and yet, he went out on a boat one night, looked to the heavens, and saw all the stars. He finally understood, only God could make this. Here was an atheist, humbled by God, soon to be an atheist no more.

Then you have Christians who weren't convinced like that, but rather, they were convinced by the intellect. How many atheists have gone out trying to disprove Christianity, only to become believers? Albert Henry Ross, Lee Strobel, J. Warner Wallace, all atheists at first, convinced entirely by the evidence for the resurrection.

And so the question every atheist must ask is what gives them the right to demand more? Clearly, the evidence God has provided is enough. It is enough for simple and scholar alike. Are modern atheists more valuable than Christians, that God should provide more evidence to them than He has provided to those who have accepted it? Why do atheists act like they are the ones giving something to God, and He must somehow earn it from them?

In truth, far from being a matter of intellect, this is a matter of pride. See, salvation is a gift. We don't deserve it. We sinned against God, we deserve nothing less than His wrath. He can afford to ignore us, He can afford to let us be swallowed by Hell and forget we exist. The fact that there is even a Gospel for us to debate is nothing short of glorious. Imagine the folly. A police officer stands at your door. He is wearing full police uniform, and his colleagues are even standing by in the car ready to back him up. He calmly tells you there are charges against you, so you must get your lawyer, and come down to the station.

But you don't believe him. You ask to see his badge. He shows you the badge. But it might be fake, right? So you say you need a warrant for your arrest before you open the door. So he shows you the warrant. Still you think it's fake. You won't believe he's a real cop until he breaks down the door. But if he breaks down the door, you will accuse him of being the criminal. How dare he interfere with your free will? Sure, you did the crime, but you had the right do to the crime, because you wanted to do the crime, so who is this police officer to judge you?

Utter foolishness, I'm sure you'll agree. Yet, I basically just described every atheist apologist out there. Richard Dawkins, Matt Dillahunty, AronRa, Sam Harris, Bart Ehrman, I could go on. These are all people who base a significant portion of their case on denial. Not positive evidence for their beliefs, not strong evidence against Christianity, just full on, fingers in the ears singing "ging gang goo", denial. And when that inevitably fails? When the denial becomes so impossible that even they, in their most stubborn capacity, must admit that God exists? These people still have a fail safe. If they die, and they face God, they imagine they will be able to talk back to Him and contest His holiness. "You're not worthy of my worship because you are not the god I would invent if I made up a Theistic religion".

My friends, how is this even a discussion worth having? If you have this attitude of "I will never believe, and even if I do I will never worship", can we at least stop pretending this is a matter of evidence? And if evidence does matter to you, if indeed you are committed to truth, can you humble yourself to the point of actually accepting evidence? My atheist friends, I do not say this to be mean, but to be honest: You are not special to God. You are loved by God, but He has already gone as far as He is willing to go to show it. To God, you are a grasshopper. You are a speck of dust on a wet, mouldy pebble floating around a spark in space. He can afford to lose you. But you cannot afford to lose Him.

Therefore, make your choice. If you are stubborn, be honest about it, and enjoy the short life you have before the judgement you will bring upon yourself. There is no point in giving lip service to evidence. You fool no one but yourself that way. But if indeed you do care about evidence, then search for it, and when you find it, as many have before you, then humble yourself and accept it. Repent, confess Jesus as Lord, and be baptised, because eternal life is on offer. Freely offered, easily accepted, get yours before it's too late.
