Christ > Musk

As Elon Musk takes over Twitter, the radical Left are absolutely freaking out. The thought of opinions contrary to their own being expressed as freely as they express theirs is terrifying to them. Moreover, ironically, despite saying Conservative voices aren't being suppressed after all, they are now worried their own voices will be suppressed... by the very mechanism they have been using against Conservatives for years now. Even though, of course, this is absolutely not going to happen, because unlike the Radical Left, Elon Musk, at least for now, appears to mean "free speech" when he says "free speech". "I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means", he says. This, as opposed to Twitter's previous stance of effectively saying "yes, we made the wrong call banning you, but we still banned you, and in order to get your account reinstated, you must admit we were right to ban you".

Will free speech become a new feature of Twitter? It's hard to say. Even if Musk himself is genuinely intent on it, there are a lot of obstacles for him. Suffice to say for now, I'm a lot more hopeful than the radical Left. For years, they have argued "Twitter is a private company, they can censor who they want. Go build your own platforms". Well, we did, then they got attacked too, because the Left hates free speech. Their ludicrous ideas can't stand up to scrutiny, so they've labelled that scrutiny "hate speech", or "misinformation", and now, even U.S. citizens, whose right to freedom of expression is enshrined into Constitutional law, have seen that right threatened, and even removed, by Big Tech companies.

As the saying goes, "truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth". As an older saying goes, "Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?" (Galatians 4:16). But older still is Jesus' promise in Matthew 16:18: "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18).

Many people interpret this verse to mean the world will not overcome the Church. Although true, this verse isn't actually saying that. Rather than "the world will not overcome the Church", Jesus is here saying the Church will overcome the world. Gates, of course, are not offensive weapons. Who carries a gate in a scabbard or holster? Who drives a gate into battle? Who loads a gate into a launcher and fires it into their foes? Gates, my friends, are defensive structures. What Jesus is saying isn't "Hell will not stop us existing", but "Hell will not stop us from speaking".

Censorship is nothing new. The entire reason our God was crucified was because He said things the culture didn't like. His disciples, likewise, were slaughtered by the dozen for the same "crime". Yet, though our faith was born in persecution, it spread across the world. Jewish scorn, Roman swords, pagan opposition, could not suppress this tiny, passive group. Indeed, their efforts only pushed our brethren out further.

Regardless of whether free speech comes to Twitter, one thing is certain: We will overcome efforts to stop us preaching. The very stones are able to cry out for God's purpose. But what is that purpose? Salvation to the penitent, but wrath to the wicked.

Right now, the radical Left are terrified of free speech, but a time will come when they, themselves, will not dare to speak, for they will stand before the Lord Himself, and He will judge them. If calling a man a man is so terrifying to them, imagine what it will be like when the Son of Man calls them into His throne room and reads out their every deed, word, and thought.

My Left wing friends, if you have dared to read this far, think. What's so scary about a few Conservatives being allowed to freely disagree with you? Is it really as scary as the prospect of an eternity separated from God and His blessings? Take this moment in history as a warning. In this world, there will be cycles of wickedness and righteousness overcoming each other. Justice could prevail here. Free speech could reign, and a great revival could happen worldwide. Or maybe Hell itself will descend on the Earth. Freedom could be permanently extinguished from the Earth, and even you could be imprisoned for having the unpopular opinion. It's a grave you dug for yourself. Either way, the gates of Hell will not overcome the Church. We will always preach the truth in love, and the truth is, Christ loves you.

Right now, you have two choices. You're scared of free speech because you know your sin may be freely exposed, and that's uncomfortable. But Hell is more uncomfortable, for the God of comfort Himself is absent. Your choices are accept that fate for sake of the temporary pleasure your sin brings, or accept the love of God, saving you from that fate by taking it upon Himself. Faith and salvation, or impenitence and judgement? Seems like an easy choice to me.
