Evolutionists assure me that Evolution is just "change over time". Ok, well, 6,000 years is time, and speciation from multiple independently created kinds is change. I don't believe there's anyone on the earth identical to Adam. My dog probably doesn't look like the first dog in Eden. And sure, finches on the Galapagos probably share a common ancestor with the finches here in England: A finch.
See, even in the Bible, we have differences within kinds. Jacob and Esau, twins, were very different from each other. Esau was red and hairy. We're not told what color Jacob was, but the specification that Esau was red suggests Jacob probably wasn't, and he was certainly smooth. Jacob needed to create an elaborate disguise to trick his blind father into thinking he was Esau. There's also evidence that Jacob practised selective breeding. His wages from Laban were determined by the patterns of the sheep he bred. Clearly, these sheep were not carbon copies of their parents. This is all found in Genesis, so clearly these kinds of change over time are compatible with Creationism.
And of course, it is inconceivable that the Jews were not aware of the differences within their own communities. No one was identical even within Israel. Outside Israel, they knew the other nations, and could identify each other by sight. Some of them were even racist! Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because his wife was an Ethiopian. Yet they all believed they were descended from Adam and Eve. No devout Jew (or even a stiff necked Jew like the ones who opposed Moses or crucified Jesus) would say that Ethiopians are descended from apes. That is Darwin's belief.
So, clearly, the fixity of species is not a Judeo-Christian belief. We believe in speciation. It's a fact of science, and it was understood (to a lesser extent, of course) even before science existed. In other words, Creationists believed in change over time before Darwinists existed.
But what type of change happens? Well, history shows us that humans have always produced humans. There are no examples of non-humans producing humans. This is where Evolutionists will cry "You don't understand Evolution! It happens gradually!" Yes, but whichever way you cut the cake, you believe humans have non-human ancestors, so at some point, something non human has to have produced a human. That's an inescapable conclusion.
So, scientifically, historically and Biblically, species can change, but kinds never have. No one ever saw a fish grow legs, or a dinosaur grow wings. Not only do we not observe Evolution, Evolutionists admit that it would take too long for us to do so. It would take at least a few hundred thousand years for anything like what Evolutionists claim happened to be shown possible, much less factually historical.
As a Christian, I believe in change over time. If you want to call that Evolution, fine, we'll play your game: I believe in Evolution. Now prove that we evolved from ape-like creatures and not just Adam and Eve. Proving that fish can lose their eyes, finches can change beak sizes or that moths can change colour does not prove fish can gain legs, dinosaurs can gain wings, or that moths are descended from pond scum. Evolution, as taught by Darwin, does not get a free ride on the back of speciation, which is a concept Creationists like Edward Blyth were writing about before Darwin plagiarised his work.
