"If you believe that God makes miracles you have to wonder if Satan has a few up his sleeve." - Dexter, Dexter season 2
As a disclaimer, this ministry certainly does not endorse the show "Dexter". Nevertheless, before I was mature in the faith, I did watch it, and so setting its moral implications aside, I can testify that it does give us some interesting brain food, such as the quote above. Does Satan perform miracles? As shown in the header images, actually, yes he does. The devil is more than capable of performing some very impressive feats.
This can be seen in the account of the 10 plagues. When Moses went to Pharaoh, he did not do so with just his words. He and his brother Aaron, empowered by God, were able to drop a rod, which became a snake. But Pharaoh's response wasn't "ok, you're obviously from God, take your people and go!" No, Pharaoh summoned his sorcerers, who were also able to turn their rods into snakes. Aaron's rod ate the others, showing God's superiority, but of course Pharaoh, as we know, hardened his heart at this (Exodus 7:10-13).
Now of course, eventually, God won. The magicians finally found a miracle they could not replicate and admitted "this is the finger of God" (Exodus 8:19). The devil only has so much power. He can do nothing without the Lord's consent. But still, he can do some miracles.
But what he cannot do is fulfill prophecy. The prophetic words of the Bible, according to Peter, are "strongly confirmed". The Old Testament has never failed. Jesus fulfilled so many Messianic prophecies that hard hearted Jews living after His resurrection completely disregard the interpretations of pre-Christian Rabbis. Because of this, we can be more sure of our faith than any other religion. More so than if a miracle happened right before our very eyes! Now doesn't that fill you with confidence?
