False teachers on trial: The Bible means what it says!

Jehovah's Witnesses seem to be multiplying like rabbits around my local area. Several street corners, outside hospitals, colleges and pubs, seem to have resident JWs with their little magazine racks, all of which are entitled "What does the Bible say?" The obvious response would be "open it and find out".

But therein lies the problem. Jehovah's Witnesses, and many other supposedly "Christian" religions, treat the Bible as if it was inaccessible. As if it is bound in chains, and only that one Church has the authority to unlock it for you.

Not so! One of the functions of the Bible is determining the difference between a true and a false teacher. True and false teachers, therefore, cannot possibly have the right to interpret it for you! Even Paul, when he took the Gospel to the Bereans, submitted himself to the authority of the scriptures. The Bereans read the scriptures on a daily basis to see if Paul was telling the truth (and of course, he was, so they believed him).

Any Church that claims exclusive authority to interpret the Scriptures has already failed the test of the Scriptures. As a defendant cannot judge his own trial, so also must the churches keep silent until called upon to present their case. Organisations such as the Watchtower have been found guilty, and are condemned as heretics.
