Heavenly things happen to Hellish people

A common question to ask is why do bad things happen to good people? On the flip side, we may also ask why good things happen to bad people? These are two very difficult questions that I'm not going to answer today. Rather, I want to focus our mind on the eternal. Whether bad things happen to good people, or good things happen to bad people, this much is certain: A time will come when the faithful, regardless of their prosperity (or lack thereof) upon the earth will never again see bad things. The unfaithful? They will never again see good things.

As the saying goes, "you can't take it with you". When the wicked die, their possessions stay here. And they don't have much control over what happens to them then. Even if they leave a will, how can they ensure that will is respected? Not that they'll care, of course, because they will have lost the most precious thing they possess: Their soul.

But to us, the Lord says that our sufferings on this earth are not worthy to be compared to the glory that will be revealed in us (Romans 8:18), and that this world won't even come to mind (Isaiah 65:17). Therefore, rather than being downcast by the troubles of this world, let us rejoice. Whatever happens in this world, we have great assurance in the next. Our only real concern here should be how to convince others to join us.
