There is a large dispute within the atheist world as to whether or not atheism is the philosophy of a thinker, or requires no thought at all. On the one hand, you have people who say daft things like "I think, therefore I am atheist". On the other hand, you have atheists who are less confident in their denial, preferring to define atheism as just a lack of belief.
Obviously, we cannot have it both ways. A rock lacks belief in God because a rock cannot think at all. Thus, if atheism is merely the lack of belief, atheism is literally a philosophy for the brainless. By contrast, if atheism requires thought, and indeed is such a thoughtful belief that, somehow, not being an atheist requires that you don't think, then atheism cannot be a lack of belief.
There is, of course, a middle ground. Due to the very nature of Theistic claims, to even lack belief in God requires you to think some very crazy thoughts. Let's put it in earthly terms: Suppose I lack belief in other humans. Let's come up with some crazy scenario in which I have never personally encountered another person. Yet, I live in the remains of a city. My lack of belief in humans requires me to now explain both my own origin, and the origin of every building around me. It doesn't take much thought to not believe in humans. A rock can do that. But it does take thought to explain how I was born, or how this city came to be.
In much the same way, it takes no thought to lack belief in God. In fact, regardless of whether or not they use the "lack of belief" definition, it seems the majority of atheists are so thoughtless, all they can do is deny. This takes no intellectual effort at all. But even by denying the existence of God, you now have a lot of explaining to do. As the saying goes, "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything". And atheists tend to fall for the strangest things.
On top of this, if you don't believe in God, you don't have a lot of reason to believe you can think. Indeed, we are not the only creatures with this ability. We share our world with millions of other creatures. Yet, not even the smartest of them come close to us. And indeed, intelligence is not spread out evenly among our species. Some of us are very intelligent. Others, not so much. So how can we tell humans have any reasoning capabilities at all? In Christianity, human beings were designed to be great thinkers. In atheism, human beings weren't designed at all. Whether you believe in Evolution, or some other bizarre theory of origins, human beings were not designed as thinkers. Therefore, how can we know we can think?
Therefore, however you define atheism, it is not a thoughtful philosophy. Rather, it is a philosophy that erases the very foundation of thought. No thinking man should ever identify as an atheist, because the more you think about the implications, the less thoughtful atheism seems. Far more logical to just throw up your hands and say "I don't know". But once you have done that, you can begin to look at the evidence. And the evidence leads us to one conclusion: Jesus rose.
That can mean one of two things for you. On the one hand, it can mean eternal condemnation. You have sinned against God, and He prescribes only one punishment for that: Death. On the other hand, it can mean salvation, for when Jesus died, He did so for your sin. Through faith in the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, everything you have ever done wrong can be completely forgotten, and you can inherit eternal life in Heaven.
