If society jumped off a bridge, would you?

Back in 2018, I encountered a man who insisted that there is no such thing as Christian rock music, because teenagers used to use rock music to cover up the sounds of their fornication. When I hear this argument, I ask a simple question: was rock music immoral before it was abused, or after? If they say it was always immoral, they need a new argument, because the abuse isn't what makes it immoral. If they say it only became immoral after the abuse, they've admitted that rock music is amoral, not immoral, because morality never changes.

I explained this to the man, but he disagreed. He said morality does change, as is evident from the fact that society now believes homosexuality is ok. The idea that "society says it's ok, therefore it's ok" or "society says it's wrong, therefore it's wrong" is annoyingly common. Atheists like to argue along similar lines. In their eyes, we don't need God to dictate morality because society dictates morality. But this argument is basically the adult equivalent of "all the cool kids are doing it!" So, I think the answer should be the same as an angry mother would reply: if society jumped off a bridge, would you do that too?

Conveniently enough, most people already understand this. I've never met a person who doesn't have some problem with their own society. The truth is, it takes a lot of bravery to do the right thing when society tries to make you do the wrong thing. With regard to homosexuality being considered socially acceptable, this isn't an example of morality changing. God still declares that homosexuality is unnatural (Romans 1:26-27) and that He will not allow those who refuse to repent of it into His Kingdom (1 Corinthians 6:9). Therefore, it is actually an example of society turning against the unchanging moral standard.

Whether regarding music or sexual conduct, morality never changes. Some things are always wrong, some things are always right, and some things don't matter either way. To think, behave or speak in a way contrary to the will of God is always evil.
