Is sin really able to reward you?

As unfortunately is the case with many wealthy and powerful people, Balak, son of Zippor and ruler of Moab, believed he could solve his problems by throwing money at them. He asked Balaam to curse Israel, but initially, Balaam refused, knowing full well it is impossible to curse whom God had blessed.

So Balak sent for Balaam again, and when he finally showed up, Balak asked "am I really not able to reward you?" Well, as it turns out, no. Balak may have had great earthly wealth with which he was perfectly willing to part, but aside from Balaam not being able to deliver the requested service, Balak's wealth is hardly worth comparing to the reward God can give, nor is it a worthy trade for the punishments He can deliver.

Satan may offer you many things in this life. "Am I really not able to reward you?" he may ask. But as Balak could offer nothing to Balaam, the pleasures of sin are no reward for committing it. No matter what the devil whispers in your ear, do what Balaam should have done: Reject the summons of sin, and obey God.
