There are several valid ways to answer the question "who is Jesus?", but only some of them are correct. 2,000 years ago, this important question was asked by those who knew Him. Was He John the Baptist? Was He Elijah? Was He just a prophet?
In the modern day, some people would still give that last answer. Muslims, for example, believe Jesus was just a prophet, and that His main message was "by the way, Muhammad is coming soon". But C.S. Lewis said it best: Jesus is a liar, a lunatic or the Lord.
By taking scattered quotes from Jesus, it's easy to make Him into whatever you want. You can make Him into a revolutionary, or a Liberal, or a Socialist, you can even make Him into a terrorist. But taking all of Jesus' words into account (not to mention the divinely inspired, authoritative teachings of His disciples), there is only one possibility. Jesus claimed to be God.
If Jesus claimed to be God, there are only three possibilities. The first is that He knew He wasn't. Somehow, He figured out a way to trick people into thinking He was God, when in reality He was just a guy with some very advanced technology and knowledge, allowing Him to perform "miracles" that even we cannot replicate. Of course, if Jesus was not God, and knew He wasn't God, yet claimed to be God nonetheless, He was not a prophet, or even a good person. He was a liar. And what do we do with liars? We shun them. We don't listen to them, or consider them good teachers, or call them prophets.
But what if Jesus actually believed He was God? If He believed He was God, but wasn't, He still wasn't a prophet or someone worth listening to. Do you listen to a babbling drunk? Do you listen to a schizophrenic? Do you listen to a drug addict on a high? If there is something wrong with someone's mind that makes them perceive reality incorrectly, they're not worth listening to. If Jesus was not God, yet thought He was God, He was a lunatic, not a prophet or a good teacher.
But there is one final possibility. Maybe those miracles weren't just a con. Maybe when Jesus said He was God, He not only believed it, but was correct in that belief. If this is the case, Jesus was not a liar. Jesus was not a lunatic. Jesus was not just a prophet, or a good teacher. Jesus, my brethren, was the Lord. And all the evidence supports this conclusion.
