Jesus loved Judas

Jesus gave us a lot of commands concerning love during His ministry, and in the scriptures, He gives us even more. But He also lived by example. Consider Judas. From the beginning, Jesus knew who Judas was. In the scriptures, God foretold of the man who would share His bread, yet betray Him. When Jesus chose Judas, He knew he was the one. When the time came, Jesus foretold of Judas' betrayal, even before it was going to happen. He looked him in the eye and told him He knew it was going to happen. Before Judas was even born, Jesus knew he was going to betray Him, and that he would be lost to Hell.

But how did Jesus treat Judas? He treated him as a friend. He made no distinction between Judas and the 12, He washed his feet, He shared His bread with him, the only mercy Jesus showed the Apostles that He did not show Judas was salvation, and that only after his death.

If Jesus showed Judas mercy, even knowing he was bound for Hell, how much more should we, who do not know the eternal fate of one person who lives on this earth, show mercy to the world? They may be your close friend. They may be a mere acquaintance. They may be a stranger. They may be an enemy. They may even be a traitor. But my dear brethren, even if you know someone who is almost certainly bound for Hell, God absolutely demands that you love them. You must feed them when they are hungry. You must give them a drink when they are thirsty. If they are stranded, provide for them to go their way. If they are naked, clothe them. If they are homeless, shelter them. If you know someone who needs a blessing, and it is within your power to do it, Jesus gave us an example in Judas of how we are to give them that blessing. If Jesus can have mercy on a Hell-bound sinner, you can love the Judas in your life.
