Unbreakable circles are surprisingly common in the Mormon religion. One such circle is the fact that Joseph Smith claimed to have seen the Father in 1820. Yet, in Doctrines and Covenants, one of the Mormon scriptures, we are told that anyone who sees the Father without the Mormon priesthood will die. Joseph Smith did not receive the Mormon priesthood until 1829.
If no one can see the Father and live without the Mormon priesthood, and Joseph Smith did not receive the Mormon priesthood before seeing the Father, there are only three possibilities. 1) Joseph Smith lied about seeing the Father, making Smith a false prophet. 2) Doctrines and Covenants is false, making Smith a false prophet. 3) Joseph Smith neither saw God, nor is Doctrines and Covenants an authoritative source, making Smith a false prophet.
All three possible scenarios lead to one conclusion: Joseph Smith was a false prophet. Unfortunately for Joseph Smith, God has a rather unpleasant (however, entirely justified) way of dealing with unrepentant false prophets in the afterlife. Not so unfortunately for Mormons, they can avoid sharing his tragic fate. Although Smith was a false prophet who spread a false gospel, there is a real Gospel which provides eternal life and the freedom from sin. Leave the Mormon Church and repent of your sins. Ask Jesus to forgive you and accept His free gift of grace. Then you will be saved, not after all you can do, but after all Jesus has done.
