Lessons from Project Veritas

Recently, James O'Keefe confronted Alex Martinez following a Project Veritas hidden camera sting on him. As I, myself, have Asperger's, I can say I utterly despise everything Martinez said in front of that hidden camera. Even setting aside his disgraceful ideology, Martinez is a horrible man if he actually believes what he said about those with Asperger's.

That being said, I do want to voice my disagreement with the follow up confrontation. First, what if the roles were reversed? What if it was a radical Leftist who caught a Conservative (or heck, at this point, anyone nearing the Centre), then started chasing them around the city barking at them. What would we think? We'd call it a disgrace.

With Martinez, not only was he harassed while trying to enjoy a meal (clearly also upsetting innocent bystanders), but even when he fled, O'Keefe chased him. Martinez, so disturbed by this, actually ran into traffic. Now, if that's the level of insanity he's willing to go to, getting hit would be his own stupid fault. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, as they say. But would he be running into traffic if O'Keefe just let him leave?

What purpose does this even serve? You have the footage of him mocking his future employer for having Asperger's and confessing to some of Twitter's unethical practices. You have literally everything you could ever need from this guy without ever having to say a word to him. If you want further comment, surely you have his contact details? Send him a letter, or an email, or heck, send the original "date" to "meet him organically" and let him compose his defence, if indeed he dares give one.

Of course, I'm a strong supporter of Project Veritas. I believe what's done in the dark should be brought to the light, especially when it affects so many people. And yes, I believe those who commit such evils should be permanently looking over their shoulders for that day. Nevertheless, I think there should be a risk/reward factor in all of our decisions. Risk of a sting: Getting caught. Reward: Exposing the dirty secrets of Twitter. Risk of this follow up: Martinez wins one of the aforementioned "stupid prizes". Reward: You make a few Conservatives laugh. Step up your game, O'Keefe.

But there is more to this. Project Veritas is a new thing, but God has always got "hidden cameras", the tape of which He always has access to. On Judgement Day, there are two options: He can judge you, or He can judge Jesus. If you have things you're doing that you really wouldn't want to justify in public, you already know how it would go if God judged you. I can certainly say the same. I know I wouldn't last 1 minute in His courtroom on my own merit. "Brian, how do you pl..." "Guilty, Lord... Guilty...".

But there is a way for the guilty to survive judgement. One thing that everyone can plead: "Christ became sin, who knew no sin, that I may become the righteousness of God in Him". Well there you go. Confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, and suddenly, you can openly confess your sins and know full well they're accounted for.

Jesus loves you. He does not want you to reap what you have sown, because He has sown a greater thing for you. Repent, and reap the reward of eternal life. You may run from men like O'Keefe, but never from the Lord. Run to Him, instead.
