Love is love, lust is lust

A fact that irks many a Liberal is that the Bible presents lifelong heterosexual monogamy as both the supreme family model, and a moral imperative. This naturally excludes homosexuality, which is explicitly condemned in Scripture. Homosexual activity is a sin that will be judged by God, and the very definition of marriage renders "gay marriage" an oxymoron.

Liberals object. Why is God against love? "Love is about hearts, not parts!" #Loveislove, right? This is a major mistake. Sex and love are not synonymous. It is entirely possible to have sex without love, and indeed this commonly happens. How much love is there in a one night stand, or a hookup? How much love is there between a prostitute and their client? Even rape involves sex, and yet needless to say, rape is the antithesis of love.

By contrast, as shown in the graph above, there are countless legitimate relationships that should involve love, and should not involve sex. You should love your parents, you should never have sex with them. You should love your child, you should never have sex with them. Your siblings, your friends, your pet, these relationships should all involve love, but under no circumstances should sex enter the equation. The only legitimate relationship that should involve both love and sex is with your spouse. Anything beyond this is not love, but lust.

Lust is one of many things that sets us apart from God. It is a desire that causes us to behave in ways that are not in accord with His will or His commands. When God designed sex, He designed it to be enjoyed by a husband and wife in the privacy of their own marriage bed as both a passionate expression of love, and for the potential creation of children. The two genders were designed to work together, not with themselves. The Lord has decreed that any other model is immoral, and deserving of punishment. The same is true for all sins, great and small. Murder is sin, lying is sin. The problem is, we've all done that.

But there is one thing Liberals have right. Love is love. God shows His love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Though we deserve punishment, He does not desire for us to take it, and so it was instead carried out on the cross. Jesus, though innocent, died as a sinner. He died as if He was the one who engaged in homosexuality. He died as if He was the liar. He died as if He was the murderer. My friends, Jesus died as if He was you. Because of this, you get to live as if you were Him.

There is, of course, one condition. Like any gift, salvation must be received. Therefore, you must repent of the sin that brought condemnation, confess Jesus as Lord, and believe He rose from the dead. If you do that, you will receive eternal life. After that, get baptised as a show of good conscience towards God, acknowledging that He loved you enough to do all this, and now you love Him enough to respond. This is not a sexual relationship, but believe me, it is a loving one.
