Obviously, God wants everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-4), but not everyone actually wants to be saved. Therefore, God tells us "“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces." (Matthew 7:6). Frustratingly, the swine vastly outnumber those who will actually receive the Gospel.
An excellent example is the meme shown in the header image. Though it was shared by an atheist who claims to be an ex-Christian, it shows virtually no understanding of the Christian faith, nor even a desire to do so. It makes a number of claims of varying validity about Heaven, following it up with the suggestion that an immediate trip to Hell is preferable.
The first claim about Heaven, and the only one that is indisputably true, is that we will spend eternity "praising a deity". But it's strange that the atheist would consider this a bad thing. Obviously, if they have a cartoonish idea of Heaven in their head, where we're basically just sitting on a cloud singing to an old man in a white robe forever, that's intimidating. The thought of doing anything for all eternity is intimidating, actually. Everything needs to end eventually, even sex, eating, and everything else we enjoy on Earth. So obviously, a static existence simply praising "a deity" does sound awful.
In reality, however, Heaven is a permanent and close relationship with God. Praise will be a part of that relationship, but it won't be all we do. Now, picture a close relationship here on Earth. Do we not praise each other? "You look particularly lovely today, honey". The idea of praising God is only a difficult thing for those who refuse to know Him. But when you get to know Him, even here on the Earth, praising Him becomes an enjoyable experience. In the Kingdom of Heaven, that relationship will not be marred by our sin, nor will it be dulled by our physical separation from Him, nor will it be limited by our blindness to the things He has done that make Him worthy of our praise. Thus, this is no reason to object to Heaven. It is, however, quite the comment on an atheist's personality if they can't even express appreciation for such a wonderful God.
The second claim is that there's no sex in Heaven. For the most part, this is actually a realistic expectation. Jesus does tell us there's no marriage in Heaven (Matthew 22:30). Thus, it's reasonable to expect there will be no sex either. There are some Christians who speculate that there will be sex of some form, and the rules will just be different. But that's just speculation. However, if there is no sex in Heaven, we won't miss it. In fact, our Heavenly bodies will be quite different. They will still be flesh and blood, but of a whole new nature. From head to toe, even including the mind itself, Heavenly bodies will be quite suited to Heavenly life. If there is no sex, we won't even want sex.
What about food? The meme says we won't be eating in Heaven. Yet, anyone who knows anything about Heaven knows that there will be food in Heaven. "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ." (Colossians 2:16-17).
On Earth, a large part of the reason we eat is simply survival. If you go long enough without eating, you'll start to grow weak, then you'll get sick, then you'll die. We might enjoy eating some things more than others (and overindulgence will result in some rather unfortunate effects, like getting fat), but pleasure is more of a happy bonus than being the end in and of itself. Our Heavenly bodies, by contrast, will be quite robust. Imperishable, in fact. If we don't eat, we won't die. And there doesn't appear to be a "too much", either. Nor even a price. The food and drink in Heaven, and even the festivals that will likely involve eating and drinking it, will make the food and drink we enjoy here on Earth seem rather like that which currently comes out the other end of our bodies.
And given that "...Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Corinthians 2:9), it's ridiculous to assume that any Earthly joy absent in Heaven will be missed. Many things we enjoy will be there, some even being significantly better. I personally quite enjoy animals, which scripture strongly suggests will be there, yet they won't be dangerous, or mortal, anymore. Who knows what else is there?
So we see that the few things this meme gets right about Heaven aren't even remotely as bad as they'd like it to seem, and everything else they get so wrong, it seems deliberate. But it gets worse, since the meme concludes with "I'm gonna just pack up and go straight to Hell now".
This is because the meme is based on the erroneous assumption that Christianity is false. Obviously, anyone who believes in Hell, and especially that they're going to go, isn't going to speak so flippantly about going. The demons certainly don't. Whoever made this meme, and whoever shared it, is therefore clearly under the delusion that Christianity is a false religion. They aren't actually suggesting Hell is better than Heaven.
The irony is, they're actually proving the Bible's point. "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." (John 3:19). Christians do not say "accept Jesus and you'll spend eternity in this super boring reality, as opposed to this fun place that's filled with all your earthly pleasures". It's not. It's a place of fire. I don't think that's what the Kings of Leon had in mind when they wrote "this sex is on fire". No, Hell is a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. That means in Hell, there will be no sex, no food or drink, no pleasures at all. Everyone who goes to Hell will suffer the due penalty for their evil deeds, committed against the perfect and Holy God.
Frankly, I think that's the worst part of Hell. It's not actually the pain, but the emotional weight of knowing you deserve it. Atheists always make emotional cases like this meme. "I don't want to be shamed for my sin, I don't want to give up my pleasures, I don't want the fear of Hell" etc. That last one's actually not present in Christianity, by the way. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." (1 John 4:8). Nobody should ever fear Hell. If you don't believe, you don't fear it for the same reason you don't flinch when someone points a finger gun at you. If you do believe, you don't fear it because your belief is a shield. If you fear Hell, you're in a weird limbo where you're in some weird limbo where you know it exists, but aren't fully trusting in the God who bought your ticket out of it.
But ultimately, you don't need to "pack up and go to Hell now". You'll die quite naturally on your own. Hopefully it'll be peacefully in your sleep at a ripe old age. But however it comes, it's coming. At that point, you'll see that Christianity is true. Because it's true, you should accept Jesus regardless of what the two realms are like. Heaven is a bonus, not a central point. We don't deserve Heaven, we deserve Hell. Jesus does deserve our worship, but instead endured our scorn, dying at our hands precisely so we wouldn't have to perish at His. And He proved this by rising from the very tomb we lay Him in. Thus, you really do have a choice. Not between enjoying Earthly pleasures in Hell and a boring existence in Heaven, but simply a personal relationship with God, or an eternity wishing you had it. In effect, this meme is the equivalent of committing suicide because you want to extend your life. It makes no sense. Choose life. He's waiting for you.
