The Book of Abraham is one of the books in the Mormon book Pearl of Great Price. Allegedly written by Abraham himself, Abraham 4 contains some of the most blasphemous statements in the entire Mormon religion. Most noteworthy, at least to myself as a Genesis nerd, are the 4th and 5th chapters. Chapter 4 is effectively a polytheistic re-write of Genesis 1, with the 5th chapter being a partial re-write of Genesis 2.
It is common knowledge among both Jews and Christians that the name "Elohim" is plural, which is why most translations of the Bible have God use the so-called "Royal We" when describing His plans. "Let us make man in our image" etc. Many Christians see this as an early reference to the as yet unrevealed doctrine of the Trinity, and even Jews ask why God gives such a solid excuse to the "heretics" (i.e. Trinitarians). However, no Hebrew scholar has ever been so bold as to claim that because Elohim is plural, it can be justifiably rendered as "the gods". Judeo-Christianity is a notoriously monotheistic religion, with the very idea that anything even comes close to God's divine status being considered the height of sacrilege, and thus it is impossible to translate Elohim as referring to a plurality of gods.
But Joseph Smith was no Hebrew scholar. He was a false prophet and a blasphemer who sought to make his own religion for his own selfish gain. This resulted in him "translating" the Book of Abraham (which, having been rediscovered in 1966 and translated by real scholars, turned out to be typical Egyptian funerary texts with no Biblical references what so ever) as a polytheistic abomination.
The mere fact that the documents Smith claimed to have translated by power of God actually turned out to have no resemblance to Smith's claims should be enough to identify him as a false prophet, but no Christian should ever have needed such a discovery to figure that out. Whereas the so-called Book of Abraham was genuinely translated in 1966, the Bible has existed at least partially in English since the 7th century, and was made very widely available with the translation of the KJV in 1611, long before Smith was even conceived. In every correct, or even halfway decent translation of the Bible, in any language you can think of, the Bible repeatedly, like a chorus of banging bongos, affirms the singular nature of God.
The book of Isaiah is especially full of such statements, as God seems to be particularly interested in refuting the idea that there are any gods besides Himself. He affirms that no gods existed before Him, and that no gods will exist after Him. In His infinite knowledge (Isaiah 40:13-14; Isaiah 46:9-10; Psalm 147:4-5 etc.), God does not know a single other god (Isaiah 44:6-8), which would be rather strange if there were other gods working on the heavens and the earth with Him, especially if He supposedly had His own father god on another planet on which He was once a man like us.
We see, then, that the henotheistic (multiple gods with particular attention to one) religion of Mormonism, far from being the one true church of Christ, is nothing more than the damnable doctrines of a blasphemer and his successors. It is troublesome that the Bible can be so clear on the issue of monotheism, and yet so many people (4.5 million regular church attendants) are fooled by the lies of Joseph Smith. Let us pray that all 4.5 million, along with the extra 11 million people who identify as Mormons, will one day open their eyes to this great deception and repent, being saved by the true Gospel of the real Jesus Christ.
