My message to myself

I have a confession to make: Were it not for this ministry, I would not be an especially dedicated student of the Word. Bringing daily messages to an audience is, more often than not, a way of bringing a message to myself.
So, here's the message I have for myself for today: We have the very word of God! If God spoke to me directly, I'd sit in the grass and listen intently. Yet, because it's in a book instead, somehow I just don't feel like it? I need some kind of motivation to read it? I would be so happy to actually hear from Him, yet I need self discipline to hear what He's already said? This seems strange to me. If I truly believe God has spoken, not even sleep should prevent me from meditating on it.
Yet, somehow, it does. And not only sleep. All sorts of things seem to take priority over study. And that's fine if it's something important. Studying the word tells us there's more to life than studying the word. You have to eat, sleep, work, socialise, and even respond to emergencies, and that's just a few of your basic needs. But studying the word also tells us to study the word. So what is it that causes us to neglect it so? As Christians, let us get our nose into God's 66 love letters once in a while, not just because we ought to, but because we love the God who wrote them.
