New term proposal: Godgic

Suggesting there is a limit on God seems absurd at first, until you realise it is totally Biblical. Although the Bible clearly tells us God is the truth, it also strongly indicates that there are truths He Himself cannot bend. For example, can God lie? Lying, at least in theory, should be easy for God. After all, how hard is it to arrange a collection of meaningful words in such a way as to represent a false reality? I can lie right now, watch: The sky is red. I am a multibillionaire. Evolution is a valid scientific theory. Boom, three lies. Am I now more powerful than God?

The obvious answer is no. A far better way of understanding God's sovereignty is that, rather than there being no limit on God, there is no external limit on God. Every limit on God exists not because something other than God has placed it on Him, but because He is God. God cannot lie because He is truthful.

God is also coherent, hence He "cannot deny Himself" (2 Timothy 2:13). Because He is not an illogical being, He cannot do illogical things. For example, He cannot create a round triangle. Nor can He create a box He cannot look into, a stone too heavy for Him to life, a burrito too hot for Him to eat, or a reality in which He did not exist. These things are all incoherent. But God is not limited in creating these things because of something external to Him. Rather, in the case of contradictions, He is unable to create these things because they are not things. In the case of limiting His own power or even erasing His own existence, He cannot do these things because He is Himself.

My proposal for the term "Godgic" is not a serious one, although in the future I may well use it in other Bible Brain articles. Nevertheless, I do want to help people understand that 1. There are limits on God's power, and 2. These limits come from God Himself. These limits are Biblical, for the Bible itself is quite open about the fact there are things God cannot do. These things, however, do not threaten God's sovereignty, as God cannot do these things because they are not Godly things to do. God is a totally Godgical being, and thus while He does have limits, those limits are Himself.
