Rejoicing over persecution

In the modern day, many people are being thrown under the bus in the name of the cult that is Liberalism. Based very heavily on sexual depravity, blasphemy, and even murder, Liberalism is a political ideology that has certainly expanded its rule over the last few decades. This has resulted in a lot of persecution of anyone with the slightest amount of common sense. One white male member of Antifa was even verbally assaulted by another of his fellow lunatics, who declared “you’re still inherently racist, you’re part of the problem!

Many Christians find this bizarre. And indeed, it is. Business owners sued for refusing to participate in the promotion of gay “marriage”? Teachers suspended for using the word “girls” to refer to... girls? Pro-life groups being forced away from murder mills so they can’t offer mothers an alternative to abortion? So many absurdities, I could write a thousand essays and still not cover them all.

Liberalism is insane. But truthfully, what we’re seeing here is little different than what Jesus and His Apostles experienced in their time. When He was tried, Pilate found no fault in Jesus. And indeed, He had no faults to find. Yet, because of His perfection, the sinful masses wanted Him dead. And they weren’t content to just kill Him, they shouted “crucify!” Rather than Jesus, whose sole “crime” was preaching the Word of God, they chose to release a treasonous murderer in His stead.

So really, should we be surprised by the horrors of our modern era? Liberalism is not a unique problem. It’s merely one manifestation of the spiritual war that has been raging for the past 6,000 years. Life on the right side of God has never been especially easy. It doesn’t just involve getting your own life in order, but also receiving flak from those who seek to live by the desires of their own hearts. That does mean we will face persecution. But in the end, that’s ok, because while the reward of loving darkness is more darkness, the reward of loving the Light is more light. Jesus can no more be defeated by the hatred of the radical Left than He could be defeated by the wrath of the Jews. If the grave could not hold Him, what can? The answer is nothing. So maybe you bear the name “bigot” or (insert random phobia or ism here). Maybe you watch your career fall before your eyes. Maybe you go to jail. Maybe you even die for your faith. But at the end of the day, none of that is worthy to be compared to our eternal fate (Romans 8:18). Persecution is worth enduring. Rather than getting upset about it, we ought to have Jesus’ attitude: Father, forgive them. And if they refuse to repent, and do not receive that forgiveness? It won't haunt you for a day in Heaven. "Wow, this is a great Kingdom, Lord, but... 6 trillion years ago, this crazy lady called me a racist...". Think it'll bother you then? Let it not bother you now.
