Background

"Let's Try This Again" was written during a particularly difficult time in my personal faith, when I was struggling with a particular sin. As Christians, we tend to have two wrong approaches to this kind of thing: A. Feel so rotten about it that we don't think God can forgive us, or B. feel so fine with it that we don't think He actually needs to. For Christians who take the latter approach, I have no comfort. You're out of step with the faith, you're spitting on His grace, and I would seriously doubt your salvation.

But for the former, which was where I was at when I wrote this, I decided to write this song. "Let's Try This Again" is exactly what I said to myself. I'd been tempted, I'd caved to temptation, I had failed. Miserably. But Christ didn't give His life so I could forfeit mine. By relying on His grace, I get another shot at living according to His will. This song is designed to encourage Christians to stop wallowing in guilt, repent, and get back on the right path.

It is also a "fight song". In order to help me fight temptation, I've written many songs for a playlist, of which this is one. Chronologically, this one makes more sense to listen to after a fall, but if you think about it, every future temptation will be faced after the last time we fell. Thus, even if the last fall was a significant time ago, "Let's Try This Again" can serve as a reminder of sin's toxicity, and an encouragement to resist this time.
