The deity of Christ in the NWT

The great thing about the Bible is that even a bad translation of it, so long as it has some semblance of the original text, will contain some good theology. Take, for example, the New World Translation. The New World Translation is not a good translation of the Bible by any stretch of the imagination. It was produced by the Watchtower Society in a vain attempt to support their heretical doctrines. Direct references to the Trinity, for example, are omitted or watered down.

But God is wise. He knows the lengths to which sinful man will go to deny His doctrines, and so He went to great lengths to ensure the Bible contains more than just direct references to these things. In His infinite wisdom, God made sure the Bible only makes sense in light of the Trinity. The doctrine of the Trinity can be found all through the Bible if you know where to look.

One example that not even the NWT failed to erase can be found by comparing Psalm 89:6 with Hebrews 1:3. In the NWT, Psalm 89:6 reads "For who in the skies can compared to Jehovah? Who among the sons of God is like Jehovah?" It should really go without saying that no one is like God. He possesses the supreme extremity of every good attribute. He is eternal, He is omniscient, He is omnipotent, He is... Triune... God is completely unique. nothing is like Him, no one is like Him.

Except Jesus. Even in the NWT, we read that Jesus is "the reflection of God's glory, and the exact representation of His very being". Verse 3 even continues to tell us that He sustains all things by the word of His power. Who does that sound like? Well, that's clearly Judas Iscariot... It's God! God sustains all things by the word of His power, and yet here, we are told that it is Jesus, who is the exact representation of God's very being, which Psalm 89:6 tells us would be completely impossible if Jesus is not God, because no one among the sons of God is like God.

So, there's the Trinity, even within the Jehovah's Witness's Bible. And we wonder why their Church forbids them from studying the Bible independently? We need to encourage them to do so anyway, because at the end of the day, the Watchtower organisation is stealing far more from them than just the word of God. In stealing that from them, they are stealing the life that comes with it. Let us do everything within our power to steal it back. Encourage your Jehovah's Witness friends to study the word with all readiness, searching the Scriptures daily to find out if these things are true (Acts 17:11). Then may the Holy Spirit guide them from darkness to light.
