In my opinion, two of the funniest verses in the entire Bible are Proverbs 22:13 and 26:13. Both of these say something along the lines of "the lazy man says there's a lion in the streets". Now, I don't know about you, but I have never considered fear of a lion to be a trait of laziness. Would any of you volunteer to fight one? Of course you wouldn't. The chances of you surviving the encounter are really rather slim.
So what do these verses mean? Well, what I think they're actually depicting is the hilarity of the excuses a lazy man will give just to avoid doing some work. The modern equivalent would be "the dog ate my homework". The lengths to which a lazy man will go to get out of doing work are ridiculous, and that is what this proverb is trying to convey.
Of course, in the modern day, the response to "there's a lion in the streets" would be "pics, or it didn't happen". But although our excuses are often less extreme than a lion roaming outside our house, do we not still make them? But laziness gets us nowhere. If you're lazy, it will be the Lion of Judah you meet in the street. Thus, let us not be lazy. Rather, let us complete the work the Lord has set us to do.
