The pen really is mightier than the sword

War is something that has plagued our species for thousands of years. Tribe rises against tribe, state against state, nation against nation, even within a nation there can be civil wars. But according to the Bible, our greatest enemy cannot be defeated with guns or blades. Whoever it was that said "the pen is mightier than the sword" could not have been more correct.

As a matter of fact, the Bible describes itself as a sword. It doesn't pierce the heart like a metal blade, but the mind. It strikes down demons, not men. It frees slaves from the bondage of sin, rather than the bondage of chains. It does not invade a nation, but changes it from the inside out. If you think about it, it is even controlled like a weapon. Oppressive governments restrict their subjects' access to weapons with which to keep them in check, just as false religions discourage, or even forbid studying the Bible in order to test them. Sometimes, it is even the same authorities forbidding both weapons and the Bible.

As Christians, our job is not to wage war and take over the world. Jesus is more than capable of taking it when He's good and ready. Our job is to spread a message. A message of peace, and goodwill to all men. The God against whom we are fighting has offered us a complete and total pardon for our crimes. Every act of treason against Him can be completely stricken from the record. This is not a message of violence. We don't cuss people out, we don't threaten them, we don't abuse them. Violence is an absolute no no. Apologetics will always be superior to violence and intimidation.
