One of the most ironically looked over details about Hell is the very purpose for which it was created. Unbelievers especially treat it as if it was made just so God could enjoy torturing people forever. Most Christians do not view it this way (although some unfortunately do), but nevertheless, so few of us are able to articulate the truth.
The truth is, Hell was never designed for man, nor man for Hell. One may compare this to a prison. Prisons are a blight on humanity. They are a tragic necessity designed to separate criminals from society until they have either paid their debt, or no longer pose a threat. No one sane would look at a prison and say "the government only built that to scare people into obeying their laws", or "the government just enjoys torturing people". We all understand the need for prisons. More importantly, we understand that if we, as law abiding citizens, choose to join a criminal organisation, we too will go there, and justly so.
As sinners, we have effectively chosen to join the devil and his angels. Hell was designed for them, not us, but when we choose to join them, we ultimately chose to join them in torment. The amazing thing for us is that, while Christ has no intention of saving the demons, He went to such a great length to get us out of Hell. This would be akin to a terrorist being offered a full pardon if all he did is believe the king (or president, or prime minister, or whoever has the highest authority in your country) went to the electric chair. Our view of Hell is backwards. We need to flip it, not only in our own eyes, but in the eyes of the world who are heading there. We need to send them a message: please do not go to Hell. You do not need to.
