The useless box

One of the weirdest products I've ever seen marketed is the so-called "useless box". The useless box is certainly worthy of its name. Its sole purpose is to turn itself off. The user flicks the switch to the "on" position, at which point a lever immediately swings out of the box to flick it right back to "off", and retreats back into the box to wait until the box is once again switched on, and the process is repeated.

Once we've got passed the amusement of watching the GIF for a few seconds, we have to ask why anyone would actually want this? Congratulations, you've spent your hard earned cash to get into a finger wrestling competition with a block of wood! And you're never going to win. So what's the point in this box?

My brethren, don't be that box. For your salvation, Jesus spent far more than the £7 I last saw the box on sale for. Rather than letting you take the fall for your own sin, Jesus paid for you with His own blood. So what's so hard about supplementing your faith with goodness? Goodness, knowledge, self control, endurance, Godliness, brotherly affection, and love. These are all things God wants from you. What good are you to Him if every time He tries to get these out of you, you just raise your hand to the switch and flick it right back to the off position? Be Godly! Try everything you can to be a worthy investment.
