The world's most miserable apologists

The irony of atheistic apologetics is that there is no end goal. If atheism is true, literally nothing else matters. Everyone's fate is the same, regardless of what they believe. If an atheist picks up a religion, or if a religious person does not become an atheist, they don't lose anything. If a religious person becomes an atheist, or if an atheist stays an atheist, they don't gain anything. If atheism is true, literally nothing matters.

By contrast, virtually every other philosophy grants some kind of benefit to faith, or drawback for failure to believe. The vast majority of Theistic religions present some form of eternity that will be better, or worse, according to how you live and/or believe. The most obvious example is Christianity. It makes perfect sense for me, as a Christian, to try to persuade an atheist to come to Christ, because in my faith, if that atheist does not repent, his sins will be retained, and when he dies, he will suffer the everlasting wrath of God according to what he has done. By contrast, if he repents, he will spend eternity enjoying a Kingdom so fantastic, the earthly human mind cannot comprehend it. In other words, my faith, if it is true, matters. His faith, if it is true, does not.

"But your faith isn't true!", the atheist might claim. In fact, they do claim this, and they spend a good amount of their lives passionately preaching it at every opportunity. Yet, apparently, this job is redundant. There's no evidence for Christianity, right? So of course, it makes sense to go to random posts about theology that don't even have atheism as a background thought and make that very claim, usually in the sight of thousands of people who may even be ex-atheists themselves, having seen the evidence for Christianity.

But it's not just that there's no evidence for Christianity. Christianity, in the mind of an atheist, is so obviously wrong, the only way to believe it is to be brainwashed, or worse, dishonest. Which is why we must dedicate so much effort to convince people of what they should already know...

To summarize, then, if atheism is true, atheistic apologetics is a redundant job, because Christianity is obviously false and has no evidence, and has no worthwhile end goal, because atheists have nothing to gain, and Theists have nothing to lose. Yet, atheists still see fit to waste their time on this redundant job. What does that tell us?

Of course, it's typically unwise to try to get into the mind of people you don't know, but what it tells me is that most atheists are so passionate about wasting their time telling you there's no evidence for this obviously wrong faith because they know that's not strictly true. If Christianity is obviously false, no one would need an atheist's help finding it out, but it's not obviously false. If there really was no evidence for Christianity, people would look, but never find it, but there is evidence for Christianity.

Sufficient evidence, in fact, to convince several ex-atheists to become Christians. Many Christians began their walk as stubborn anti-Christians, who often found compelling evidence for the faith on their way to refute it. Of course, that's not just atheists. Many religions lose their followers to Christ, because He's just that powerful.

But as much power as He has, His grace has its limits. See, one thing atheists fail to realise is that although God wants to save them, He is under no obligation to do so, and He loses nothing if they are too stubborn to accept Him. Scripture repeatedly affirms that God shows no partiality. Therefore, no atheist is more significant, in God's eyes, than another. In fact, no human is worth more than another. So, if the evidence He has given us is sufficient to convince, say, Lee Strobel, author of the classic book "The Case For Christ", why should He give even one iota more to Sam Harris?

The truth is, God owes no one salvation, and He proves that with whole cities full of people who would have repented had He shown them a little more evidence. In Matthew 11:23, Jesus says "And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day." But rather than do those signs, God chose to condemn them to destruction, making them an example to those who would afterward live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6). The only comfort for them is that those who know less will be judged less harshly. Perhaps this is even a huge grace to stubborn atheists, who, always demanding more proof, would drink upon themselves greater condemnation by rejecting it when they receive it.

Atheism, therefore, is miserable. If it was true, it would be pointless. As it is not true, it is the substitution of eternal benefits for temporary pleasure. It is pure robbery. One of the devil's greatest scams since the Garden of Eden. And ultimately, the only one an atheist is robbing is himself.

And so, to atheists who all too often claim to be critical thinkers, I encourage you to critically examine not only your own beliefs, but also the Christian faith. Walk the well-beaten path out of atheism, and along the way, you will find that this whole time, you have been missing out on the one true faith. Study the Cosmological argument, and see that something eternal must have created this world. Study the teleological argument and realise that Creator must be intelligent. Study the argument from reason, and understand that Christianity alone gives you foundation to believe you can think. Study the moral argument, and accept that every time you make a moral claim, you must borrow from the very faith you deny. Study science, and see that materialism is insufficient to explain your consciousness. Study history, and see that not only have most people throughout history understood that there is a God, but also, that God stepped into history, and settled all debates about His identity by rising from the dead.

And He did it for you.

You don't deserve it. From your youth, you have been in rebellion to God, storing up wrath for yourself. And simple justice dictates that the guilty should not go free. But God, in His love for you, took your punishment regardless. Jesus died so that although you deserve to suffer in Hell, you may instead go to Heaven and reign with Him there. The choice is entirely your own. Come to faith, which is more than reasonable given the huge amount of evidence God has given us, or commit to paying an infinite debt with your own finite credit. Choose life.
