"Things that made perfect sense when unquestioned made no sense at all when questioned".

The conversion story of David Wood is especially interesting to me. As a sociopath, Wood's emotions don't work normally. Death doesn't bother him at all, and as you'll see in his testimony, his moral compass is almost entirely external. Before Jesus, he viewed morality as something the weak, lesser evolved humans clung to, and after Jesus, he obviously inherits his morality from Jesus.

I find this interesting, because if anyone in the world has an excuse for mocking Christians and refusing to think rationally about Christianity, it would be David Wood. He's just wired to be able to do that. And yet, when he did begin to question his own beliefs and his own arguments, he eventually realised they make no sense.

I've encountered many atheists since I became a Christian. To my knowledge, none of them have gone so far as to attempt to kill their own father just because they thought they could. But more often than not, the atheists you'll find on online forums act a lot like David's description of how he did towards Christians. Many atheists are pointlessly antagonistic towards Christians and spend more time laughing at arguments than thinking about them.

One time, an atheist came to God Squad Apologetics to tag his friend and ask her if the page was part of a cult his friend had joined. He then proceeded to stalk my other posts, bashing Christians as gullible, yet calling me bigoted for presenting thoughtful arguments against the Catholic Church. You should already see the contradiction. In spite of the fact he constantly tripped off the profanity filter, I tried to be patient with him, but when he decided to post "I'm gonna say it: Carl does inappropriate things with goats", I just decided he wasn't worth the time and gave him the ban he'd been practically begging for. This, my friends, is why Jesus says cast not thy pearls before swine.

But here's the question: Why be such a swine in the first place? I'm obviously not trying to encompass all atheists here. Some of them are the nicest people you can meet, they'll intelligently discuss religion, and Christians can quite comfortably befriend them. But what about those who can't? What about the scoffers who, in all honesty, probably haven't even read this far? Why is it that a literal sociopath can think rationally about Christianity, yet an otherwise healthy young man acts like a snot nosed, undisciplined teenager?

I think the answer can be found in the end result. As they say, "ignorance is bliss". David Wood became a Christian when he sat down and scrutinised his worldview. In his words, "things that made perfect sense when unquestioned made no sense at all when questioned". Atheists have these default arguments like "if you were born in Iraq, you'd be Muslim" or "when you understand why you reject other gods, you'll understand why I reject yours", but just stop and think about those for a moment. Does the global distribution of a belief really alter how true it is, or is likely to be? Does an atheist really reject Jesus for the same reason a Christian rejects other gods? These silly arguments, which I'm sure you've already refuted in your own head even if you are an atheist, are presented by some of the most famous atheistic apologists in the world. They sound intelligent if you're biased towards them, yet when examined in any depth, they're shown to be totally senseless.

When you stop to question atheism, it starts to become apparent why so many atheists don't stop to question atheism. It's an unsustainable worldview. On its own, it's weak, and acts as a vacuum for a world of crazy ideas. As the saying goes, "When you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." The arguments in its defence are illogical to the point of insanity. Most atheists don't question atheism because if they did, they would inevitably end up taking one of two routes: Begrudging conversion, or irrational denial.

The Bible makes it clear that the latter is a possibility. God tells us that those who deliberately reject Him will be given over to a debased mind, and believe strong delusions. We certainly see this in our culture. We didn't turn our backs on God that long ago, and yet we now have increased violence, gay "marriage", transgender worship, abortion, all sorts of things that would have been intolerable in the past are becoming celebrated now.

But even then, even when an unbeliever has become deluded beyond reason, God calls on sinners to repent. God loves atheists as a father may love his estranged son. The problem is, God is more than just a Father. God is also the law. Judge, jury, and executioner, God has the unfortunate role of being the highest court in all eternity. To sin even once is to summon His wrath. And yet, in His love, He has no desire to give it.

And so He sent Jesus. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life, and then he went to the cross to bear your sin. The punishment for everything you have ever done wrong was placed on Jesus. Now, all it takes is to confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. If you do that, you will be saved.
