One of the most detestable lies of the abortion lobby is that opposition to abortion is a purely religious, mainly Christian worldview, and thus abortion restrictions are imposing the Christian faith on unbelievers. This would come as a surprise to the thousands of pro-life atheists and agnostics, who of course do not believe in God, yet still somehow respect the sanctity of human life.
But for this article, we can set those people on the sidelines, and simply grant that yes, my Christian faith is a huge reason for my opposition to abortion. The first problem abortionists have is that I am opposed to killing everyone for that same reason. My religion doesn't only teach that human life is valuable in the womb, but also outside it. Currently, the law specifically devalues life in the womb, and so I, as a Christian, am particularly vocal about that. By contrast, the law will already condemn a man for, for example, "honor killing".
In Islam, it is entirely permissible for a Muslim parent to kill their own child, outside the womb, for some sin or another. In particular, the penalty for apostasy in Islam is death. Thus, if a Muslim man finds out his son is actually a gay atheist, it is permissible, according to his religion, to kill his son. Because of my religion, I am opposed to that. I believe the law should protect gay people from religious persecution.
The moral difference between an honor killing and an abortion is negligible. Both involve a parent, for their own selfish motives, killing their "unwanted" offspring. The main difference is their child's level of development. I oppose honor killings and abortion for the same reasons.
Ultimately, the main difference between abortionists and pro-lifers is that pro-lifers are less arbitrary in when we think it's ok to kill people. Pro-lifers, generally, will oppose killing people without good reason. We may, of course, make exceptions. Self defence, for example, is a commonly cited reason for killing. But this is because the person being killed is posing a real and present threat, not because of any particular trait they have. In any other scenario, it remains evil to kill that person. By contrast, an abortionist, to be consistent, has to say not all people are equal. It's perfectly ok to kill someone, a black person, a gay person (as they tend to believe even babies can be gay), a girl, a disabled person, anyone they might otherwise consider a protected class, as long as no one can hear the screams.
So you see already, first, this is not a religious issue at all. It is absurd to suggest that it's morally incumbent upon people of all creeds to not kill each other, but if killing that victim happens to be ok in the eyes of the abortionist, suddenly it becomes a religious issue.
But the fact that abortionists say it is actually exposes the heart of abortionists, and highlights the brilliance of Christianity. Non-Christians may not have God's light living in them, but they do have the law of God written on their hearts. Therefore, they know the difference between right and wrong. They know it is wrong to kill human beings. By defaulting to the assumption that a pro-lifer is Christian, even to the point where the pro-life ideology is automatically assumed to be a Christian issue, they actually confess that Christianity is the only faith that correctly views human life.
For the many unbelievers who are pro-life, this should be a particularly loud wake-up call. Whereas atheists have no foundation to stand on when discussing their moral views, Christians do. But even for abortionists, this sorry state of affairs should be very telling. Not only are you willing to murder your own children, and support the mass murder of many more, but when you find someone speaking against this atrocity, you assume they follow Christ. You therefore acknowledge the truth: It is Christ who determines the value of life. And you have attempted to usurp His throne.
But rest assured, this treason will fail. As the blood of Abel cried out to God, so also does the blood of the millions of innocents whose deaths you sanctioned. And His judgement is coming soon. Each of us is accountable to Him, and He will repay.
But there is good news. God is so pro-life, He actually wants you to live forever in His Kingdom. Therefore, though you deserve to suffer what scripture calls "the second death", He has provided a way for you to be forgiven. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took on human flesh, lived a perfect human life, died on a cross, and rose again. If you confess Him as Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, every sin you have ever committed, or will ever commit, will be forgiven. This is a religious issue, and no, I will not advocate any law that says you must accept it. But you reject it at your own peril, for though God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, you will die, and face Him in judgement. Don't be aborted, be born again.
