Why does God need you to tell me He hates my music?

The great thing about scripture is that it doesn't need anything to be added to, or removed from it. God delivered His revelations as, and when, we needed them, and we in the modern day are lucky enough to live on the side of history when the faith is complete (Jude 1:3). We are waiting for no more scriptures, and you can be sure that if God was to reveal something new to us, He would do so quite convincingly, just as He did before. Not to mention those revelations would be quite compatible with previous revelations.

Sadly, the Church continues to divide over many things, from the major to the downright trivial. Case in point, what sort of music can we listen to as Christians? We're not talking about in a church service, I feel like they really should be limited to the least offensive (to the people attending) songs possible. I'm talking about when we leave the pews, and gather with our friends, or even in private. Can we listen to reggae? Rap? Rock? Metal? It is really rather sad how many Christians will answer "no, even if the lyrics sound Christian, the genre is demonic".

You will search in vain for biblical proof of this. Not one verse even hints at the possibility that a lyrically pure song, set to any beat, could ever be sinful. And if you try hard enough, you can usually get even the most stubborn of people to admit it. Instead of trying to defend their views using specific scriptures, they will instead resort to general condemnations of evil, or unsound doctrine. But this tactic can be used against anything, even the musical genres these people prefer.

As Christians, it is vital that we stick to the scriptures. Adding to them is just as evil as taking away from them. As Romans 14:22 says, "Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves." That phrase "have it to yourself before God" means that though the Church is an organism, we are still individuals. God isn't some kind of weird, alien dictator barking arbitrary orders at us. Rather, He has purpose to every command He gives. And He is clear in every command He gives. Therefore, if you cannot find something in scripture, do not seek to place it there, and woe betide you if you judge someone for disagreeing with you. Your music is your music. My music is my music. Avoid actual sin, and you will do well.
