The concept of "rape culture" refers to a cultural phenomenon in which rape is promoted, encouraged, or tolerated. Rape culture, by this definition, has undeniably existed throughout history, and continues to exist in some countries throughout the world. Rape and sexual abuse (which are separate acts, just as murder and assault are) are often used by conquering armies or domineering elites as a show of victory, power, or superiority, devaluing and even dehumanising "inferior" people.
In spite of this history, and the fact that there are still countries in which rape culture persists, it has been heavily squashed in civilised societies such as those established in the U.S., or the UK. In these countries, all people groups are recognised as being functionally and legally equal. The laws we have do not allow you to commit crimes against particular people groups but not others, and rape is a crime that carries legal penalties. At least in theory, both countries do have a right to due process, which can allow the guilty to go free. This is not a part of rape culture, but justice culture. It is seen as being better to protect the guilty from punishment than to allow the innocent to suffer punishment. Nevertheless, if it can be proven that someone is guilty of rape, which is a comparatively rare crime precisely because it is unpopular in our society, the rapist will face legal repercussions. Rape culture, at least as far as it pertains to societies like ours, is a myth.
Or so I thought. While I maintain my belief that there is no societal or legal promotion, encouragement, or tolerance of rape, there is an ideology within our culture that is able to exploit features of an anti-rape culture to allow rape to at least survive to a greater degree than it realistically should. That ideology is radical Left wing politics.
To be perfectly clear, I am not throwing all of these accusations on everyone who is even slightly left of centre, nor am I saying everything about Right wing politics is true and holy. When I speak about the radical Left, I am referring to the most extreme Left wing beliefs, many of which are not held, or even tolerated, by a lot of those on the Left. There are probably many Labour or Democrat voters who would agree with most, if not all of what I am about to say. So, let's get on with saying it.
Weapon control
From a spiritual perspective, all men are created equal. We all have the same natural rights, and the same responsibilities. Physical equality, however, is completely non-existent, and predators seek out weaker victims. Criminals in general have two main fears: Getting hurt, and getting caught. They target their victims based on the likelihood of either outcome occurring. Setting weapons aside for a moment, one study (1) performed in 1981 shows that even your body language tells a criminal, in 7 seconds, whether you would be an easy target. A collection of thieves, murderers, and, yes, rapists, were shown recordings of various pedestrians, and asked who they would target and why. The criminals all chose the same potential victims: The ones who would be least likely to harm them, or put them behind bars.
Realistically, I shouldn't have to cite any studies to tell you this. Not that I'm in any way opposed to doing so, but I just feel like it's common sense. Sense so common, even an animal can figure it out. A hyena won't attack an elephant, and a lion would choose a zebra over a porcupine. So why would a rapist choose a strong victim?
But what about the weaker victims? The people who, in the 7 seconds it takes for a criminal to assess, are targeted? Well, once again, common sense should kick in here, but I can cite at least one other study from two researchers who began as anti-gunners, but changed their minds. In 1983, James Wright and Peter Rossi surveyed more than 1,800 criminals from various prisons in the U.S. (2). Among other things, the two discovered that 81% of respondents agreed a smart criminal will check to see if their intended victim is armed, 40% had actually been deterred by an armed victim, and 57% were more afraid of an armed victim than of the police.
Following the study, Wright and Rossi changed their views, admitting that armed citizens are a deterrent to crime. Not just rape, crime in general. In other words, a good way to deter rape is to carry a gun. The equal and opposite reaction? By outlawing weapons, particularly easy to use weapons like firearms, you enable rape.
Of course, no anti-gunner is going to come out and say "I'm anti-gun because I want rapists to have an easier time finding victims while having less chance of getting hurt or caught". That would be an incredibly stupid thing to do, and I'm grateful to God that our culture has not yet sunk to the depth where such a statement is possible. Nevertheless, gun control, particularly of the Draconian level seen here in the UK, does make it easier for rapists to find victims, and get away with their crimes. Prevention is better than the cure. Therefore, gun control perpetuates rape culture.
Defunding the police
Of course, even if 100% of potential rape victims were armed, rapists are going to rape, and a gun is not a shield of invincibility. Sometimes, rape will happen, and it is necessary for the perpetrators to be hunted down like the scum they are and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Thankfully, we have established criminal justice systems and law enforcement organisations designed with that express purpose. If you are aware that a rape has occurred (or that it is likely to occur, prevention is always better than the cure), you should immediately contact the police, and they will use their resources to track down and arrest the rapist.
Unfortunately, just as our society is anti-rape, it is also anti-racist. If you can spin a narrative that an institution is inherently racist, you can cause many problems for it. Along comes Black Lives Matter. You agree that black lives matter, right? Of course! So you agree we should defund the police? Now hold on now, that seems a bit extre... WE GOT A RACIST OVER HERE!
But let's be honest, there is nothing racist about wanting a well-funded police department. To avoid overextending this article, I will not set out to disprove the BLM narrative here. Suffice to say for now, with the police defunded, they will become far less efficient in enforcing laws against rape (which, I'll remind you, do exist, and are enforced, showing that rape culture is a myth). As stated in the previous point, predators have two fears: Getting hurt, and getting caught. Defunding the police reduces the risk of both. Therefore, once again, a radical Left wing policy perpetuates rape culture.
Protecting rape gangs
Unfortunately, even a fully funded police service can be next to useless if their work is impeded by fear of backlash. This is exactly what allowed Islamic rape gangs to be so successful here in the UK. One report shows that as many as 1,400 children were exploited in Rotherham alone between 1997 and 2013, and the police dragged their feet in their response, since the perpetrators were Asian (3), and we can't have people thinking the police are racist, can we?
Well, yes. Yes, we can. The police, you see, have a job. That job is not to appear wholly indifferent to the crimes of ethnic minorities. That job is to find people who break the law and ensure they are punished. If that means a few idiots cry racism, who cares? Rapists need to be prosecuted, their victims need to be protected, and there needs to be no exceptions to that rule.
But why would the police be afraid of being considered racist for bringing rapists to justice? The sad fact is, it's because they probably would be. These days, everything seems to be about race. That is, of course, until it is not. Typically, racial aggravation is grounds for an increased sentence (4). However, in at least one case, political correctness won the day, as one Asian rape gang that predominantly targeted white girls received a lighter sentence (5).
In an ideal world, rapists would be brought to justice as swiftly as their crimes are exposed. The rape would be reported, the police would investigate, the rapist would be caught, a trial would be held, and if found guilty, the rapist would receive a punishment proportionate to their crime. And I dare say, most people would agree. You do not, and certainly should not have to be, a Right winger to believe this. But you do have to be a Left winger to believe there is anything even remotely racist about prosecuting Asian rapists. Defending Asian rape gangs in the name of political correctness perpetrates rape culture.
Defending Islam
Linking to the above, the radical Left has a horrible tendency to stifle honest discussion on basically any issue they find disagreeable. Criticise homosexuality, you're a homophobe. Criticise transgenderism, you're a transphobe. Criticise abortion, you're a misogynist. Criticise immigration laws, you're a racist. Everything the radical Left disagrees with carries some kind of imaginary phobia or ism. This includes "Islamophobia", which by all rights should apply exclusively to an irrational fear or hatred of Muslims. But it doesn't. In the eyes of the radical Left, if you so much as suggest Islam is not true, or is in some way harmful to society, you are an Islamophobe, and a racist (which is ironic, because it suggests only non-whites are daft enough to fall for a false religion).
But you may ask, how does aggressively defending Islam perpetuate rape culture? Precisely because Islam is a rape religion. OH YOU ISLAMOPHOBE! No, because I'm not saying Muslims are rape people. But Muhammad was. Muhammad was a rapist and a paedophile, and the Islamic sources reflect that. Numerous passages in the Qur'an allow the rape of captive women (Qur'an 4:3, 24; 23:6; 33:50). Survivors of Islamic rape often testify that their rapists would cite the Qur'an to show that their religion says this is ok, with one Yazidi survivor of rape saying her ISIS rapists claimed raping her was their prayer to Allah (6).
If you want to encourage rape, I can think of no better way than to support a religion started by a paedophilic rapist who claimed Allah is totally cool with raping unbelievers. This, unfortunately, is what radical Leftists do. In fact, they do this to such an extent that they will silence actual victims of rape, like Nadia Murad, because letting them speak out might "foster Islamophobia" (7). Here's a question to consider: Whoever you are, reading this, what is more offensive to you? Rape, or Islamophobia? As horrific as it sounds, there are people out there right now who, if they sat down and read this article, would be more angry at the fact I pointed out Muhammad was a rapist and a paedophile than they are that Muhammad was a rapist and a paedophile. They would be more angry that I called Islamic rape gangs Islamic rape gangs than that there are gangs of Muslims who actively sought out and raped children. They would be more angry that I am writing any of this than they are about the fact it's all true. So how is this not perpetuating rape culture? If "tolerance" of Islam leads to tolerance of rape, and intolerance towards those erroneously branded "Islamophobes", that is rape culture.
Accusing porn actresses of homophobia for refusing consent to gay men
Imagine a scenario in which a white man propositions a black woman for sex. She refuses, citing her racist opinions about white people as the reason. Feeling scorned, the white man berates her as a hateful bigot, and even gets a few of his friends to bully her for refusing him sex. Would we not call that creep a borderline rapist? I say borderline because, at least as I intended the scenario, no actual sex took place, forcible or otherwise. But rape, when you cut it down to its base elements, is motivated by a sense of entitlement. A rapist believes they are entitled to their victims' bodies, regardless of whether their victim consents. If you complain that someone refuses to have sex with you, you are operating under that same presumption of entitlement.
In reality, of course, sex is not a right. No one on this planet owes you sex, and you do not owe anyone on this planet sex. If someone asks you for sex, you can say no, for any reason, even if, as in my hypothetical scenario, the reason is stupid. If you're a racist, you're an idiot. But you can still refuse to have sex with people you think are inferior.
I hope I don't need to say it, but even sex workers, such as porn actresses, have that same right. If they don't want to have sex with someone, it doesn't matter the reason. A bisexual porn actress, for example, has every right to refuse to shoot a scene with a man who has done gay porn. Unfortunately, in the case of August Ames (8), a lot of Twitter users didn't get the memo.
After refusing to shoot a scene with a man who had done gay porn, August took to Twitter to express her disgust at her agents, saying "Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXnews, you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say,” she wrote in a tweet earlier this month. “Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? I do my homework for my body."
Oh how awful, this nasty, evil woman... didn't want to sleep with a man who had done gay porn. I'm sorry, is that really such a crime? Is it worth, for example, Jaxton Wheeler's response "...the world is awaiting your apology or for you to swallow a cyanide pill. Either or we’ll take it."? She did commit suicide, by the way, though by hanging instead of cyanide pill. There are questions about whether it was because of the backlash (9), against which she defended herself valiantly, but there are two things we can be 100% certain of. 1. The backlash absolutely did not help. 2. The backlash was utterly disgraceful.
Even when it comes to sex workers, there is never an entitlement to someone else's body. A porn actress has every right to refuse consent to a fellow actor, even if you find her reasons "seriously flawed". Heaping accusations of homophobia on a woman who admits she is herself attracted to women and loves the gay community only adds to the insanity. The insanity that perpetuates rape culture.
Calling it bigoted to refuse to date trans people
As the lines between the two (yes, only two) genders is increasingly blurred, many of us are forced to ask uncomfortable questions about how we should interact with trans people. Do we ask their preferred pronouns? Do we go full looney toons and introduce ourselves with our own pronouns? Do we... date them?
For some people, this isn't a question that even needs to be asked. They're perfectly happy dating trans people. My own godparents are in a same sex relationship, with one of them believing he is a woman. But to others, it's a big deal. And justifiably so. You cannot change your gender, so even if you can dress up so convincingly that a guy finds you attractive and gives you his number, he is entirely justified in rejecting you when he finds out you're not actually a girl.
But some radical Leftists disagree. Take, for example, the Twitter user who tweeted "not wanting to date trans women stems from y'all not viewing them as "real" women... so yes your "preference" is transphobic". It's transphobic for a man to want to date women now? I didn't realise delusions about your own body somehow entitle you to someone else's. Look how this person even puts "preference" in air quotes, as if sexual preference isn't even a thing anymore. But once again, even if you think someone's reason for rejecting someone is stupid, you don't get to complain about it. This goes back to the entitlement issue. You're not entitled to someone else's body, period. Trying to bully someone into dating someone they have no preference for is wrong, and frankly, a little bit rapey, so once again, the radical Left promotes rape culture.
Men in women's prisons
Suffice to say, rape disproportionately affects women. That's not to say men aren't at threat from rape, it does happen. But as women are generally weaker, rape is a far greater threat to them. Even setting aside this fact, anyone with a shred of common sense can tell you that putting men in women's prisons is a terrible idea. Unfortunately, political correctness is not based on common sense, nor are policies made in its name. California is the perfect example. In 2021, SB132, the so-called "Transgender Respect, Agency and Dignity Act," came into effect, requiring that prisoners be treated and housed according to their gender identity. (10). The result? About what you'd expect. Half a year after SB132 was passed, at least one woman was confirmed pregnant by one of the transfers (11).
Now, to be as fair as is humanly possible to the radical Left, it's possible this wasn't the result of rape. To my knowledge, the circumstances were never made public, only the fact that a male transfer got a female inmate pregnant. So, it could have been the result of consensual sex. In prison... I fail to see how Gavin Newsom or Scott Weiner thought that was a good idea, but either way, sex performed by mutually consenting partners isn't rape. Nevertheless, 1. For all we know, it could have been rape, and 2. Regardless of whether or not it was, it could have been. Especially since the bill allows men who are guilty of violence against women to transfer. SB132, which is an actual law in California, is like putting a fox in a hen house and ignoring the bloody mess of feathers around its gob when you check on it the next day. This is so idiotic, I can't help thinking it was deliberate. This is the most dangerous example of rape culture I can think of, and it exists in the good ol' U.S. of A!
The Me Too movement
The flip side of enabling rapists to rape is making rapists out of people who aren't. Enter the Me Too movement, with its slogan "Believe All Women". In fact, when a woman is not believed to the absolute max (which includes punishing the alleged rapist) is taken as evidence of rape culture. There are two main problems with this.
The first is it's not a case of believe either the woman or believe the man. If someone comes out with a rape allegation, the accused has a right to due process. That is, the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven. This is absolutely necessary for a free and equal society. Otherwise, it would be all too easy to persecute your enemies with fake allegations.
And that is the second problem: There are fake allegations. Now, once again, this isn't a case of believing either the man or the woman. It's not the man being presumed innocent until proven guilty, and therefore the woman being presumed a liar until proven truthful. Nevertheless, fake rape allegations are an actual thing.
An excellent example is Brett Kavanaugh. Owing to his nomination to the Supreme Court, Kavanaugh's case was particularly high profile. Multiple women alleged that he had raped them in high school, and a whole smear campaign was launched against him to impede him from taking the role. The problem? The rape allegations were fake. One of the accusers, Judy Munro-Leighton, even admitted she had never met Brett Kavanaugh in person, and that she made the whole thing up because she was angry (12).
Things aren't so perfect here in England, either. One young man was not only falsely accused of rape, but police actually held back evidence proving his innocence (13). As a man who has been accused of sexual harassment (yes, falsely), I do not even want to imagine what it is like being falsely accused of being a serial rapist, like Brett Kavanaugh, or being a 22 year old whose life was effectively destroyed by false accusations of rape and having evidence of his innocence withheld from court.
The Me Too movement not only brought with it a host of fake rape allegations, but also a disgraceful downplaying of what, exactly, rape is. Rape is a despicable crime, and when proven, should carry with it a very harsh penalty. I am a firm believer in capital punishment for rapists, depending on the severity of their crime. But the Me Too movement has redefined the crime, making forcing a woman to have sex with you at knifepoint equal to giving explicit consent, but regretting it later.
Both the excessive numbers of fake rape allegations, and the true accusations of inappropriate but decidedly non-rape situations that absolutely do not deserve to be compared to rape, contribute to rape culture by making it harder to trust accusations of rape. Never mind "believe all women", it makes it hard to believe any women. The correct response to rape accusations isn't "oh my glob, let's go mess that guy's life up". It's to take women seriously, launch an investigation, punish the rapist (severely) if it's true, and not punish anyone if the evidence is insufficient. Trivialising rape in the way the Me Too movement does contributes to rape culture.
Conclusion
There is a lot I have left out of this article, both because it is long enough as it is, and because the research makes me angry. I even made the choice to delete the section on "MAP" (Minor Attracted Persons) because it is frankly so horrible that I really never want to have to take Bible Brain down that dark alley. Rape culture, as it is described by the radical Left, is a myth, but there is a form of rape culture it is high time we abolished.
The radical Left has departed so far from God that it perpetuates rape culture in all but explicit word. They have replaced God's design for sex, which should be both an act of love between spouses and the mechanism for producing children, with an endless and insatiable pursuit of pleasure and gratification, resulting in the objectification of their fellow man. When these goals are impeded, accusations of bigotry fly, and aggression often skyrockets. The result is that rape, while still a crime in theory, and highly despised on a social level, is far more prominent than it realistically should be. But it is not too late to repent.
There is one true thing the radical Left like to say: Love is love, and God shows His love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. This, I can assure you, was no pleasurable experience, but neither is the eternal torment that awaits the impenitent. However, those who confess Jesus as Lord, and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, will be forgiven for all our sins, and inherit eternal life in a Kingdom free of rape, and all other sins. With the absence of sin comes the absence of suffering, and the everlasting presence of the God who brings life, liberty, and joy. Forget rape culture, let's perpetuate Christ's culture, spreading love that exists independently of sex.
