Why your afflictions are good for you

Suffering is quite the mystery. With such a powerful and loving God, why do we suffer? At the very least, why do those who love Him suffer? In truth, there are many answers. Some are known only to God Himself, others are at least partially revealed to us, whether by God's Holy Word, or just by our own experience.

One of the benefits of suffering is that it teaches us about God. Sometimes, it just pushes us to Him in prayer and causes us to learn things. Other times (like in this quarantine), it allows us to spend more time studying His word. Sometimes, it shows us exactly why God gave a command. Whatever the case, suffering has an amazing ability to teach us things. Therefore, when we suffer, let us look to the Holy One, not in blame as some do, but with joy, saying with the Psalmist, "it is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes".
