One of the greatest ironies of British politics is how often the Constitution is mentioned. Much like in America, both sides have their interpretations of the Constitution. This is ironic, because we don't actually have one. There is no legal document found anywhere on Earth that can be legitimately called the British Constitution.
Because it is not "codified", it is, in fact, open to interpretation. Thus, politicians of every persuasion do interpret it as they please. This is in stark contrast with, for example, the Constitution of the United States of America. This is a genuine legal document that is widely available for anyone to acquire. Even as a British citizen, trapped on this pitiful little island, I can hop online right now and easily purchase a copy.
Because it is codified, the U.S. Constitution is significantly easier to interpret. If you want to know if you have the right to freedom of expression, you can whip out your pocket Constitution, turn to the First Amendment, and right there, it says clear as day, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." So can I be a Christian in the U.S.? Yes. Can Congress pass a law forbidding me from being a Christian in the U.S.? No. Not even the Supreme Court can legitimise any law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. And if it did, anyone with access to the Constitution can prove they were wrong to do so.
The Bible is a much greater document with a much greater Author. It is also much easier to access. For centuries, the Bible has been copied, translated, distributed, and discussed, all across the world. Every day, more than 50,000 are sold, this of course not counting the ones that are given out for free. Physical copies are not even needed. Many websites and apps are available worldwide for free, containing many Bibles in many languages.
With such an ease of access, there is no excuse to pretend the Bible is open to interpretation. It even interprets itself! Sin and sloth prevent a man from studying it, but these are the only obstacles for anyone living in a civilised culture. Of course, you may argue that there are many uncivilised cultures, in which the Bible is prohibited. We cannot take our freedoms for granted! But even where Scripture is banned, it is still not open to interpretation, because there are greater laws in force. Even if you are prevented from reading it, it still says what it says. And what it says may be discovered in the same manner as any other book or document.
For this reason, we may summon the same curse upon the heretic as the tyrant, for both put a Satanic seal on the word of the Living God! The tyrant by the sword, but the heretic by the pen. When God says "thou shalt", what man may justly refuse? When God says "thou shalt not", who shall escape the punishment for disobedience? It is as Isaiah said! "For you the entire vision will be like the words of a sealed document. If it is given to one who can read and he is asked to read it, he will say, “I can’t read it, because it is sealed.” And if the document is given to one who cannot read and he is asked to read it, he will say, “I can’t read.” The Lord said: Because these people approach Me with their mouths to honor Me with lip-service— yet their hearts are far from Me, and their worship consists of man-made rules learned by rote— therefore I will again confound these people with wonder after wonder. The wisdom of their wise men will vanish, and the understanding of the perceptive will be hidden." (Isaiah 29:11-14).
If your heart is far from God, you may well refuse to study His word. Even studying it, what will you learn? If you substitute His commands for man's rules, what do you profit? If you substitute His testimonies for your traditions, how dare you take His name upon your tongue? It is not, as you claim, that His words are open for interpretation, but that His words are not your treasure. So how can you call yourself Christian? You shroud His instruction with your desires. You conceal His doctrine with your heresy. You disguise His truth with your lies. And who is the father of lies?
The Father of lies is the devil, with whom Christ had His own set of dealings. Facing temptation, the Lord snapped back with three simple words: "It is written". Christ expertly wielded Scripture as a sword, defeating the ancient serpent as a man squashes an ant. Such was His habit. When the Jews challenged Him, how often did He reply with "that's just your interpretation"? This is an entirely new concept to the Church! Historically, even the most Hellbound son of perdition has given lip service to Scripture! It is simply taken for granted that it means what it says. Thus, this "interpretations" nonsense is in desperate need of destruction, because it leads to destruction. Let the faithful open Scripture's Holy pages, studying it diligently. As the Psalmist writes, "How I love Your instruction! It is my meditation all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are always with me. I have more insight than all my teachers because Your decrees are my meditation. I understand more than the elders because I obey Your precepts. I have kept my feet from every evil path to follow Your word. I have not turned from Your judgments, for You Yourself have instructed me. How sweet Your word is to my taste— sweeter than honey in my mouth. I gain understanding from Your precepts; therefore I hate every false way." (Psalm 119:97-104).
