Iran vs. Palestine: Spiritual Warfare

As Iranians fight what will hopefully be their final battle for freedom, one thing is conspicuously absent. Where are the protesters who spent the last few years chanting "from the river to the sea"? Their silence is deafening. We know they have the energy for this kind of activism. Before Israel declared war on HAMAS, even before the victims of October 7th were buried, there was great outcry in the streets. Not against the terrorists, but against Israel. And that didn't end.
But for the Iranians, there are no marches. There are no chants of "javid shah". No Iranian lion and sun flags flying in the streets. No endless news cycle about the latest body count. As Iranian blood is shed by the tun, tongues that once uttered "free free Palestine" seem to have been captured by the cat.
Of course, this is nothing new. It's just one more piece of evidence that it was never about human rights, and it obviously was never about freedom. The supposedly apartheid state of Israel is currently the only free nation in the Middle East. The "problem" is that it might not be for much longer. The so-called "human rights activists" are conveniently blind to the human rights abuses committed by the IRGC for the same reason they were blind to the crimes of HAMAS. They don't care because it was never about human rights. The agenda goes far deeper.
All the way down to spiritual levels.
As Jesus told us, Satan cannot drive out Satan, and a house divided against itself cannot stand. This obviously doesn't mean human beings won't divide against each other, we absolutely will. But look at how insane the situation is. In the West, Feminists campaign for the right to kill their children. In Iran, real Feminists fight for the right to reject the hijab. In the West, gays claim they're oppressed because Christians don't bake their "wedding" cakes. In Iran, these same people would be hung from cranes. We watch in bewilderment as chickens cheer for Colonel Sanders, but it all makes sense when we realise the devil is alive and well, and he is throwing one heck of a tantrum.
See, Satan hates all who bear the image of God, but there are two groups he hates the most: The Jews, to whom Christ was born, and the Church, for whom He died. The IRGC, for all its destructive power, is the flesh embodiment of that hatred. Of course, the irony is the entire reason they are in power is because they formed an unholy alliance with the Communists (whom they swiftly killed). Is it any wonder, then, that the Islamists and Communists of the "Free Palestine" movement are watching in horror as the head of their serpent is being trampled? Especially with the assistance of two great nations: The revived Jewish nation of Israel, and the recently renewed Christian nation of America! The poetic nature of what is an otherwise tragic conflict surely cannot be lost on people...
It is my hope and prayer that the Iranians win this battle for their much deserved freedom. But as Christians, we need to emphasise that God alone may grant that victory. As His word says, "And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’" (Acts 17:26-28).
Iran may win this battle, but we are in a spiritual war. One that can only end when the true Eternal King sits on His throne. He raises nations, He tears them down. He draws borders, He tears them down. He crowns kings, He deposes them. On this Earth, that is a never-ending cycle. Only one Kingdom will ever rise that can never be destroyed. Let us therefore heed the words of His Apostle: "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time." (1 Timothy 2:1-6).
For wicked rulers, like Ali Khamenei, let us pray their rule ends swiftly, and they are brought to justice. For Reza Pahlavi, whatever role he plays in the incoming government, may he be granted wisdom and courage, so that Iran may again become a free and just society. And in all of this, no matter what is to come, may Christ receive the glory due to Him. Amen.
