Lyrics

[Verse 1]

Silent stands the Lamb on trial1,

accusers pressing in2.

Man of sorrows, all alone3,

Barabbas switched for Him4.

Cries of “Crucify!” ring out5,

though no guilt within Him lay6.

Like a sheep before its shearers7,

no word does He say8.

[Verse 2]

Scarlet robe and crown of thorns9,

nails within His hands10.

Garments parted, lots are cast,

for the clothes of the Son of man11.

Pierced12 and lifted13, numbered guilty14,

wounded for our guilty plea15.

"Father, forgive16, now time has come,

My spirit yields to Thee."17

[Chorus]

The Scriptures stand unbroken18,

every word was proven true19.

What the prophets long had spoken20,

now was coming into view.

[Verse 3]

“It is finished” — work complete,

He bows His Holy head21.

Midday sun in darkness shrouded22,

the Son of God is dead.

Temple curtain torn asunder23,

graves are stirred, and dead are raised24.

“Surely this was God’s own Son,”

the Centurion proclaims.25

[Chorus]

The Scriptures stand unbroken,

every word was proven true.

What the prophets long had spoken,

now was coming into view.

[Verse 4]

Linen wrapped around His body,

laid within a borrowed grave26.

Stone is sealed and watch is posted27,

hope has sunk beneath the waves.

The shepherd cut off from the living28,

His flock has run away29.

But there is hope for all mankind...

the countdown begins to Sunday.

Background

The Countdown Begins To Sunday is an ironically resurrected idea. I had attempted to write a similar song around Good Friday of 2025, but the lyrics I had produced failed Mozart AI's content filter. It would not tell me why, and I didn't feel like speculating, so I effectively scrapped the concept. But recently, after another song failed moderation, I noticed the feature has changed. Now, it will still generate the song, but it'll tweak the lyrics to make them fit. So, I tried again, and ironically, the new version had no issues passing the content filter at all.

The song is very intentionally dark, describing, in Biblical detail, the crucifixion. It draws very heavily on both the Old and New Testaments, with the chorus very specifically telling us "The Scriptures stand unbroken, every word was proven true. What the prophets long had spoken, now was coming into view." This is because none of it was an accident. The crucifixion was foretold long ago, and planned even earlier. Almost every line is a paraphrase of what the Bible says.

The song is intentionally very dark, seemingly devoid of hope. This is because even with it being planned in advance, the death of the Lord was a very sad occasion. Many even point out the irony of calling it "Good Friday". Of course, the reason it is "good" is because it was for our benefit. As sinners, we deserve worse than a cross, and as finite beings, our punishment is far beyond what we can bear. Thus, He bore it for us.

In spite of its "hopeless" vibe, the entire song centers around its concluding line: "The countdown begins to Sunday". It is this single line that inspired the song, and it tells us the true theme. It reminds us of where our hope is found. Jesus did not stay dead, like a martyr. He arose on the third day - Easter Sunday.

Although "No Bones To Be Found" was not originally designed with "The Countdown Begins To Sunday" in mind, nor the other way around, I do think they make a perfect pair. One points to the Sunday, the other boasts of it. One hints at our hope, the other plays it out. One describes the crucifixion, the other rejoices in the resurrection. Personally, listening to them back to back, they even appear almost seamless, as though they were designed that way. Even the dark "whoah" at the end of Countdown contrasts powerfully with the opening "whoah" at the beginning of No Bones. If you enjoyed one, I strongly suspect you will enjoy the other.
