Your mind is worth as much as a mouse's... IF Evolution is true

A major problem with Evolution is that it undermines the human intellect to the point where, if we accept it as true, we have no reason to trust any argument that would lead us to believe it. This is because if we have evolved from what Darwin called "lower animals", we have no reason to believe we can think any more rationally than a mouse.

Evolution is geared not towards reason, but to reproduction. If something provides an advantage in reproduction, that thing will increase reproduction rates. The absolute best an Evolutionist can claim, therefore, is that humans can expect to be able to correctly assess truth claims when doing so provides a reproductive advantage. For example, "that berry is poisonous". This truth claim may aid our survival. If we know the berry is poisonous, we won't eat it, so we won't die from poison, and we might have more children. If we don't know the berry is poisonous, or believe it isn't, we die, and cannot reproduce.

But sometimes, even a lie might be advantageous. For example, if you believe all reptiles are the deformed offspring of a demon, and can kill you with a single blink, you are statistically more likely to survive than a zookeeper, or a vet. Believing anything that makes you avoid reptiles, by the very nature of that belief, reduces your chances of being bitten by a venomous snake. By contrast, zoo keepers and vets, while they may be more familiar with these animals, nevertheless are more likely to encounter these animals. A great deal of their job involves handling them, or at the very least being in close proximity, possibly risking a fatal bite.

Even the flat earth myth may have some advantage. The sea is most definitely a dangerous place. Over the centuries, it has claimed many lives, some of whom weren't even confirmed dead. They just disappeared. Lost at sea, never to be heard of again. If you believe the earth is flat, and therefore you may fall off the edge of the earth, you're going to avoid the sea, but if you believe the world is round, you may have less fear. Thus, flat earthers may have an advantage.

Of course, none of those beliefs are so simple as to guarantee your survival or seal your doom. It's not like every zookeeper is destined to die from a snake bite, or every round earther sets sail and drowns. Nevertheless, these two examples show how false beliefs may increase our survival chances. And who's to say that's even true? Perhaps the human race has a number of false beliefs that aided our survival. In fact, this is the very explanation Evolutionists give for the very existence of religion. It even makes sense. Some religions, including Christianity, emphasise the importance and beauty of reproduction. Children are seen as a blessing from God. Obviously, someone who sees children as a blessing is more likely to reproduce than someone who sees them as such a curse that abortion is justified at any time for any reason. So riddle me this: If Evolution favours that which benefits reproduction, and bad reasoning benefits reproduction, who's to say Evolution would not favour utter stupidity over intelligence?

But if Evolution could make man utterly insane if it also makes him capable of passing on that insanity, and we have no possible way of knowing if that happened with us, then how could we possibly trust any argument that leads us to conclude that Evolution is true? If we take Evolution seriously, we couldn't take Evolution seriously. We have no reason to believe we can reason!

Contrast this with Christianity. If Christianity is true, God gave man the ability to think. Therefore, sound arguments which lead us to Christianity, of which there are many, can indeed be trusted. What, then, is the superior religion? Evidently, Christianity wins that battle hands down, as it is the only religion that does provide a solid foundation for our ability to have this discussion in the first place. According to Christianity, we're not just a bunch of dumb monkeys making silly noises while contemplating our own existence, but sinful men discussing our ultimate origin, and our ultimate end. Where we came from is not nearly as important as where we're going. The same God answers both questions. We were created by Him, and we're going to Him. When we reach Him, He will judge our every thought, word and deed. And if He finds even a single thing wrong with those, He will condemn us for it.

Or not.

See, God didn't just create us for the sake of it. He created us in His image so that we could have a relationship with Him. Sin erases that relationship, but in Jesus, God restored it. Jesus took the punishment for all sin, so that all who repent and put their trust in Him will be granted eternal life. So, where are you going? Will you continue to sin against Him, or will you repent and be saved?
